Historia
From a leading expert in Japanese history, this is one of the first full histories of the art and culture of the Samurai warrior. The Samurai emerged as a warrior caste in Medieval Japan and would have a powerful influence on the history and culture of the country from the next 500 years. Clements also looks at the Samurai wars that tore Japan apart in the 17th and 18th centuries and how the caste was finally demolished in the advent of the mechanized world.

Marvelous insight
Revisado: 03-09-24
Marvelous insight in the story of the Samurai as class and warrior, also is interesting to see how much of Japan history and myth has the Samurái as it's backbone and support and how much of what we thought about it is mere myth, even to Japan itself.

interesting but not without failings in plot.
Revisado: 08-03-23
Interesting world and story, but it has some serious flaws, some are about repetitions, where the protagonist is explained something that has already been explained or that he narrates to the reader and then he is shown surprised or befuddled.
There is something else about the main premise that takes us to the protagonist and then to the endgame, and is something stupid about the use of language. Spoiler ahead: language is a relatively modern language even compared to modern languages kill and king are quite different words, example in Spanish matar and rey, latin or Greek will be the same, words so different that they can't compare, so now an ancient magic language that is written in hard lined like an ideogram would have kill and king words being so similar they can be confused, much less has a moderniss last name like Grimsby (great full name otherwise).

Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

Amazing short story
Revisado: 04-10-23
Great future noir in the tradition of the old hard-boiled but with sci-fi elements. The premise of the CroatoanColony is rather interesting and they leave open some good questions about it all.

Historia
The Covenant mission is the most ambitious endeavor in the history of Weyland-Yutani. A ship bound for Origae-6, carrying 2,000 colonists beyond the limits of known space, this is a make-or-break investment for the corporation - and for the future of all mankind. Yet there are those who would die to stop the mission. As the colony ship hovers in Earth orbit, several violent events reveal a deadly conspiracy to sabotage the launch.

Deep world building
Revisado: 01-10-23
I loved the world-building of the future Earth and how decadent it becomes, and the deep insight on the characters, in a few ways I think is best that the story is intended to be prologue, but Alan Dean Foster does an excellent work of novelization that one too.
But yes, is a shame you see only dead people and ask yourself if the story has any reason to be, but I did like what the author did with it.

Great Thriller
Revisado: 05-26-21
Amazing story, it's very Gibson and reminds me of Neuromancer and Count Zero, to the point I was waiting for an IA at the end, so I am pleasantly surprised that the ending was quite a different one.
Great thriller.

Historia
New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. The person who controls the means to turn night into day will make history - and a vast fortune. A young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul's client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the lightbulb and holds the right to power the country?

Extraordinaire historial fiction
Revisado: 05-01-21
Good historical fiction takes you to the time and place where it happens, great historical fiction makes you believe (or makes you want to believe) that the events presented really happened as they are told. Moore makes us believe even if at the end, like a magician revealing his secret, reveals what was real, what was not, and how he mixed both in this delightful novel.
Johnathan McClain does a decent job narrating, but quite often loses the voices of the characters or mixes them, which might make it a bit hard to notice who said what at certain moments, a shame, besides that is an extraordinaire audiobook.

Good story, a bit over the top at the end
Revisado: 10-14-20
Good story and good narration, loves the characters but did find a couple of unbelievable things at the end, and none related to zombies, but to the human antagonists, they act like zombies, rush in without thinking, no self preservation, no strategy, I mean if an army of white suptemacist stop to think, yes the characters would have died and things would have been less exciting, but therenare better ways to treat that last confrontation thanna horde of mindless rednecks.

Fascinating and Enlightening view on the story and development of science fiction, it's misses japanese manga (a genre on its own) and anime from where many of the modern writers (even William Gibson) have borrowed ideas and viceversa. like Ghost in the Shell and Akira.

Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

The story is fun for a very dark theme (urban legend) and well is a comedy and a romance so it was easy to know where it was headed.
