Not my favorite
Revisado: 08-10-20
I thoroughly enjoyed the previous books, and looked forward to this one. I was disappointed with the old friend, Gina. There was absolutely nothing likable about her, and she was such a cliche. Since she dominated the story, it made the entire story one I couldn’t wait to be over. I missed Kate’s team too. They’ve always added an essential element to the stories. Ah well, hopefully the next book is back on track.

I love this book. I read it years ago and loved listening to it just as much. I’m looking forward to listening to “Hush” next. The characters got under my skin.

The newspaper refers to the body only as Victim 2117 - the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea. But to three people, the unnamed victim is so much more, and the death sets off a chain of events that throws Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division led by Detective Carl Mørck, into a deeply dangerous - and deeply personal - case. A case that not only reveals dark secrets about the past, but has deadly implications for the future.

The narrator is so good, he’s as synonymous with these books as Jim Dale is with the U.S. versions of Harry Potter. Quasi-Spoiler alert- The story was heartbreaking, triumphant, funny and satisfying.

After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness - if, indeed, they can be saved.

Not as good as the first book in the trilogy
Revisado: 12-12-19
I thoroughly enjoyed “Year One”, and looked forward to the other books. Though books 2 and 3 were good, neither captured my total interest. I think I just liked the characters in the first story more. Though they were in the subsequent books, their stories were never in the forefront.

He needs her help unraveling the identity of a man who died with Blomkvist's phone number in his pocket—a man who does not exist in any official records and whose garbled last words hinted at knowledge that would be dangerous to important people. But Lisbeth has disappeared. She's sold her apartment in Stockholm. She's gone dark. She's told no one where she is. And no one is aware that at long last she's got her primal enemy, her twin sister, Camilla, squarely in her sights.

The best of the Lagercrantz Millennium books
Revisado: 09-02-19
I didn't enjoyed either of the other 2 of David Lagercrantz's entries of the Lisbeth Salender story. But, I couldn't dismiss them either. With "The Girl who Lived Twice", I think Lagercrantz finally created a book that I wasn't comparing to the masterful Stieg Larsson the entire time. It's not as good as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", but neither was "The Girl that Played with Fire" or "The Girl that Kicked the Hornet's Nest" - though those 2 were almost as good!

Surprised by positive reviews
Revisado: 04-04-19
Did we listen to the same book? I was very much looking forward to listening to this. Most of the reviews are great. The overall subject was fascinating. The story, characters, narration were not. There was no compelling reason for the American story. If it was delightful or intriguing, I could have overlooked the clunkiness of it. The ending was disappointing and rushed. I would not recommend.

I loved it. I think the narrator is great, her voice reminded me very much of Beth Chalmers, who foes such a wonderful job with Nicci French's books. The story didn't grab me at first, but once it did, wow. I highly recommend.

Historia
The body of world-famous journalist Jeanette Thiels is discovered the day after Christmas, frozen in a snow-covered garden just steps from her hotel on Sandhamn Island. Detective Thomas Andreasson finds it highly unlikely that it was some bizarre accident. After all, the relentless war-zone correspondent was no stranger to conflict and controversy - both professional and, of late, very personal. Who would want to see her dead is another story.

It was the 1st one that I knew who the killer was when the character was introduced. None of Sten's stories have been predictable till this one.
The narration was still very good.

Revisado: 11-05-18
I absolutely most of loved Tana French's other books [The Secret Place being the exception]. I didn't enjoy anything about this book. The characters were unlikable, their actions and reactions ridiculous, the Irish charm turned into grating and horrid. I am gobsmacked that the newspaper reviews are good, though I did see many reviews from readers who disliked it. I listened to the end, kept hoping that there'd be a twist that would erase my disappointment. There wasn't. I'm sure most readers will figure out the 'mystery' like I did. If you love Tana French, skip this.

On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.
