Historia
This is the story of two boys, Dylan Ebdus and Mingus Rude. They are friends and neighbors, but because Dylan is white and Mingus is black, their friendship is not simple. This is the story of their Brooklyn neighborhood, which is almost exclusively black despite the first whispers of something that will become known as "gentrification."

The author has a gift for use of the English language. This was my period growing up. I loved the bits about marvel and DC comics specifically.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Historia
This tale of a 60-year love affair examines the age-old question of why we love the people we do. A beautiful, charismatic, and wildly successful man is adored by a woman. Even as children, he held the power. Though bound by tragedy and friendship, he defined the terms of their relationship, until finally, in old age, the power shifts. Looking at the roles of beauty, insanity, magic, deceit, consolation, sensory fulfillment and, finally, being seen, Judith explores why she loved Elliot — a relationship that impinged on every other in her life.

A Love story beautifully told and read
Revisado: 11-21-21
I'm not usually a fan of love stories, but the unique telling and unfolding of this one kept me listening from beginning to end. The characters were believable, truthful, and multi-dimensional. The arc of the story was very fulfilling and the details included were true and real.

Good way to tell a great story
Revisado: 02-01-19
I enjoyed the author’s way of telling modern Israel’s history through the stories of both fictional and nonfictional characters.
Given the amount of Hebrew and Yiddish woven throughout the story, I was disappointed with the narrator’s lack of command of those words and phrases. Where was the producer? Are there no experts to consult with? Also, the narrator’s dialectical accents and character differentiation lacked range and accuracy. Despite these shortcomings and frustrations I enjoyed the book and will listen to part 2.

Historia
Having inspired a classic film and Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny is Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life—and mutiny—on a Navy warship in the Pacific theater. It was immediately embraced upon its original publication as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of the Second World War. In the intervening half century, this gripping story has become a perennial favorite, selling millions throughout the world, and claiming the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

exceptional reading of a sweeping masterpiece
Revisado: 11-25-18
The epic quality of Winds of War and War and Remembrance are untouchable. Wouk's works are a masterpiece from the depths of a submarine in the Pacific to the gas chambers of Auschwitz to the Oval Office. But it was the reading of Kevin Pariseau that kept me enrapt for this marathon of listening pleasure. He is a genius of accents and dialect, both male and female. He even got right the Yiddish lullaby and cantorial chanting. I was astounded and delighted. I don't want to stop listening to him, so I purchased Caine Mutiny as my next read.

Historia
Set in the London of the 1660s and of the early 21st century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city, and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history. As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of 17th-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation.

Slow, meandering, ultimately interesting
Revisado: 07-21-18
A fairly good deep dive into a rich period of Jewish history. The story is long and the letters tend to be tedious, but there is a feeling of pay off in the end.
I give the narrator many credits for dramatic interpretation of characters and expression. But, she was in a position to read many Hebrew words, phrases and names that were totally butchered. I wonder where the director or producer was during this recording session. Even the word Sinai was mid- pronounced.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

It's great to hear the brilliant senator unleash his satirical dogs. If only the government could have a few more elected officials in this vein. I'm so glad that I heard this in the author's own voice. There's no other option imho.

Moonglow unfolds as the deathbed confession, made to his grandson, of a man the narrator refers to only as "my grandfather". It is a tale of madness, of war and adventure, of sex and desire and ordinary love, of existential doubt and model rocketry, of the shining aspirations and demonic underpinnings of American technological accomplishment at midcentury, and, above all, of the destructive impact - and the creative power - of the keeping of secrets and the telling of lies.

A beautiful tribute to a grandfather
Revisado: 12-28-16
Chabons ability to spin out characters in an interesting and loving way comes through. I dinged the performance for the distracting mispronunciation of the copious Jewish vocabulary (I.e. It boggles my mind that neither the narrator Nir the producer took the time to consult with almost any Jew on how to say "Kaddish" in the Ashkenazic accent). Otherwise, the performance was very good.
