Historia
Ambrose Bierce left behind a nasty reputation and more than 90 short stories that are perfect expressions of his sardonic genius. This volume of selected stories represent an unprecedented accomplishment in American literature. In their iconoclasm and needle-sharp irony, their formal and thematic ingenuity and element of surprise, they differ markedly from the fiction admired in Bierce's time.

Historia
In this seventh volume, a detailed examination is made of the period from August 1813 to Aril 1814, the end of the war. This history, written many years after Napier's, draws its information from more firsthand accounts and corrects some of the more glaring mistakes and biases of Napier. Although this audiobook is slightly abridged, the only text removed is a small number of footnotes written entirely in French. All English text from the appendices and footnotes is present.

The final elements
Revisado: 10-11-23
You will probably only listen to this if you have already consumed Volumes 1-6. Be aware that one can get free pdf versions of all seven books on the internet. This is an advantage because this recording is missing half of a chapter (Section 43. Chapter 1). It was the only error that I found in the seven audible volumes.
The summary of the book: This is the final months of fighting in the Peninsular War as well as could be reconstructed in 1930. Like the other volumes, you can listen to it for the historical elements, the triumphs and folly of military engagements, and/or the political intrigue.
Herriot's reading is very good, but I wish he understood how to pronounce Spanish words

The Wonderful Collection
Revisado: 02-27-20
I typically refrain from writing reviews, but I found the other reviews did not do this title service. Even at the price of a full credit, this would be a wonderful addition to your library.
Story wise: Baum created imaginative realms and characters. While the writing style takes on a familiar feel, each story has unique elements and challenges. This is a series of books intended for kids and therefore plots are solved in a manner that is always convenient. It should be noted that Baum was motivated to write the stories to provide adventure books with a female protagonist, but the books are suitable for both boys and girls.
Performance: Hubbell does an excellent job reading the stories. He maintains an interesting tone throughout and manages to utilize unique voices for each character - no small feat for a series of fourteen books in which each book introduces four to ten new characters. If you want to know what to expect, imagine having the books read aloud by a very engaged librarian at story time.
Production: There are a couple of instances where there appears to be a problem in the recording. I noticed two jumps. But no jump omitted critical information that undermine the story. While some reviewers have focused on this issues (which I hope get resolved), I would like to point out that the recording is clear and at a good pace. I've heard much worse.
Summary: It's a collection of imaginative tales that are suitable for children as well as adults that want a glimpse behind the curtain.

Writer for the New York Times and GQ, Mark Adams is also the acclaimed author of Mr. America. In this fascinating travelogue, Adams follows in the controversial footsteps of Hiram Bingham III, who’s been both lionized and vilified for his discovery of the famed Lost City in 1911—but which reputation is justified?

Great mix of history, adventure, travel and humor
Revisado: 10-12-18
This book blends history and modern tourism-adventure with a wicked sense of humor. I do wish that it came with a PDF that included a map to helps identify many of the locations discussed in the book. Map apps help a lot, but it is difficult to get the correct spelling.

Don't let the narrator stop you prematurely
Revisado: 01-04-18
Any additional comments?
The story is good. But the narrator's voice has a tendency to crack (screech?) at many of the excited bits. The narrator might be using it intentionally to color to some of the characters, but it can be a bit grating. There are an unusual high number of these at the beginning of the story as one of the characters yells at teen drivers and recovers from a sprain. But they become rarer and you get use to her voice. Don't let it stop you from taking in a good book.
