The telling of three parallel stories in the voices of three protagonists is a new approach to this saga. The voice actors are brilliant, it’s difficult to stop listening.

Based directly on Frank Herbert's final outline, which lay hidden in two safe-deposit boxes for a decade, Sandworms of Dune will answer the urgent questions Dune fans have been debating for two decades: the origin of the Honored Matres, the tantalizing future of the planet Arrakis, the final revelation of the Kwisatz Haderach, and the resolution to the war between Man and Machine.

Well at least it wraps up the saga
Revisado: 02-26-24
The storyline is pretty good, though the quality of the writing falls short of Frank Herbert's. The vocabulary seems to be kept at a 4th grade level, many sentences seem to repeat the same tired adjectives. The authors are fond of clichés, and the characters are fairly two dimensional.

Sometimes a classic is a classic for a good reason. Dickens is so well known that it’s possible to forget what an unsurpassed story teller he truly was.

Historia
"There is the mammal way and there is the bird way." But the bird way is much more than a unique pattern of brain wiring, and lately, scientists have taken a new look at bird behaviors they have, for years, dismissed as anomalies or mysteries - what they are finding is upending the traditional view of how birds conduct their lives, how they communicate, forage, court, breed, survive. They are also revealing the remarkable intelligence underlying these activities, abilities we once considered uniquely our own.

This was not at all what I expected from the title. In addition to being beautifully written, and beautifully narrated, it is also heavily science and reality based. I thought I knew all about birds, but I did not. This gives it a whole new dimension. Everyone would enjoy this.

Historia
On September 6, 2007, an African Grey parrot named Alex died prematurely at age 31. His last words to his owner, Irene Pepperberg, were "You be good. I love you." What would normally be a quiet, very private event was, in Alex's case, headline news. Over the 30 years they had worked together, Alex and Irene had become famous - two pioneers who opened an unprecedented window into the hidden yet vast world of animal minds.

Well duh! Parrot lovers could have told you what this book puts in more scientific terms, but the science needed doing. Dr. Pepperberg’s work was invaluable to our cultural acceptance of the intellect and consciousness of other creatures. Her very personal account here speaks to the heart as The Alex Studies speaks to the intellect.

Surprisingly Helpful
Revisado: 11-23-22
I downloaded it on a whim, sounded interesting. Instead of whimsical, the book itself has already marked a turning point for me. The simple idea of simply, honestly noticing what's going on in my mind and body when I experience cravings has given me just the fulcrum point that I needed (even if I didn't know I needed one). It probably helps that I have some years of meditation behind me, but it's by no means required and I'm no expert at all. I say this in case anyone else out there is contemplating the book, listen to it. It might help you as much as it is helping me.

Hopeful and Outstanding, with a caveat
Revisado: 11-21-22
Highly credible and extremely valuable. I follow the Sherzais on YouTube and podcast. The sole weakness in the audiobook is that Kaleo Griffith did not expend the tiny effort to learn to say "atherosclerosis." Switching resveratrol to "reservatrol" once, can be overlooked. But seriously, "Arthur O'Sclerosis" over and over? Why?

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Pollan is brilliant
Revisado: 11-16-22
He did it again: he examines a subject in which he is no expert, then frames his observations in such a way that it's totally accessible to the rest of us. I was only obliquely interested in the modern psychedelics movement -- I bought the audiobook because I like the author -- but Pollan makes it fascinating.
