Gahhh I loved this. I mean, this doesn't even compare to Evelyn or Malibu to me. This writing was way more similar to Emily Henry than her other less romancy works, and really, that's my jam. But there is so much MORE to this than just a romcom.

Really what a predicament Emma was in. I really felt for Emma...AND Jesse and Sam. I liked both of the guys and appreciated their relationships with Emma, but my heart was leading me towards one the whole time. And yes, this was made into a movie that I absolutely will not be watching.

I loved this so much more than I predicted. I read the first chapter and thought it was going to be cheesy. Boy was I wrong! Cassie is the shit. She is smart and badass and did an awesome job at confronting her demons and becoming a new and improved version of herself.

I thought the information about firefighting was fun to learn and added to the storyline for me. And don't get me started on the Rookie. Why is he so adorable?! And kind and selfless and family oriented.

Yes, this was a romance but it also was a great story with a lot of depth. I also cried through the entire epilogue. That's not really saying much for me because i cry easily when reading but it was such a perfect ending!

3.5 stars (story-wise)

I chose this because it had a lot of positive reviews and also I really like reality TV (sorry, sorry, guilty pleasure). I think overall it was okay and didn't really live up to the reviews. There were some parts that I really liked and held my attention, but others I would find myself spacing out.

Plot-wise, I really wanted to know what happened to Brett, how she died, why it happened, etc. But I honestly was not emotionally invested in any of the characters. I didn't care about any of them, which I think is why I found myself not paying attention at some points.

Also, I listen to a LOT of audiobooks, and I thought the performers in this one were not the best. I didn't like the voices, I think some were shrill. I think the performer for Brett did a good job with Brett, but when she changed her voice for others, I found the voices to be annoying.

To start: Marin Ireland is a DREAM with Backman's works. I love her more and more each time.

Now, onto the book. In order to properly review it, it is important to first know about Fredrik Backman as a writer. I am obsessed with his writing style. It pretty much has three components: 1- lots of characters that are all amazingly developed; even characters you may not think are primary to the story are so well developed you become invested in them. 2- a "main" plot with many subplots. 3- a fluid timeline. Full disclosure, the fluidity of the timelines in his stories sometimes is confusing if you're reading Backman for the first time. But then, thanks to point one (amazing characterization), you become able to pick up on context clues to understand when things are happening and how this relates to the main plot. I guess #4 (if I were going to list a #4) is that you will always cry.

So, in true Backman fashion, although this is a book about a bank robbery, this is a book about SO MUCH MORE than a bank robbery. My best advice for reading this is to know that it is a bank robbery gone wrong, ending up in a hostage situation with a bunch of misfits that essentially all ending up with relationships they didn't have before the hostage. I don't think you should know any more than that because going in clueless will make this so much more delightful.

My reviews normally contain a character assessment and provide my thoughts on who I like, who I didn't, and why, but I don't even want to do that this time. I liked them all. That is all. Please read this!!!!

How can you not love Cornelia?!

I am writing this review after reading this book for the second time (several years apart). I would like to start out by saying if you have not read the first book in this series, "Love Walked In," start with that one!! While I love "Belong to Me" so, so much more, to truly understand the story, you need to meet the characters first in book one of the trilogy.

This is one of the books that I think is just better on audio. Cornelia in and of herself is a lovable character who can smooth out any wrinkly situation and who is impossible not to love. But Julia Gibson brings her to life in the best way possible. After Cornelia, Dev has my heart. A 14 year old science nerd? I mean, what is not to love? I would love to be inside Dev's head to try to understand how his brain works. And when Cornelia and Dev start to build a relationship, their banter is so sweet and funny, I just love them together.

If you are someone who loves books most for the development of strong characters, this is definitely one for you. But the best part of all is the story is one that you will want to read again and again, it is just that good.

YAY!

Ok, I loved this. I really enjoy audiobooks when the different characters are read by different performers, as it really brings it to life for me and adds a whole new dimension to things. This was the first book I read in a while that I did NOT want to put down. I would read (listen) any time I had the chance because I had to know what was going to happen next! The best part is that each character was so unique and brought their own personality to the story. Bronwyn and her analytical mind, decoding Simon's death like a puzzle but totally letting her guard down when it comes to Nate. Nate and his difficult family life, which only softens his heart in a way most people overlook. Addy was likely my favorite; I loved seeing her come into her own as she learned what she wanted for herself and as her figured out her relationship with Ashton. And of course everyone loves Cooper, although his storyline was slightly fairytale, I could overlook it because hey, if you can't in YA fiction, when can you?

Anyway, this was a murder mystery, coming of age, love story all wrapped into one and you do NOT want to miss it.

All. Of. The. Emotions. I really do not feel the necessity to write a review for the book because there are so many eloquently written entries about it that I agree with and support completely. I very much enjoyed Bahni Turpin and her interpretation of the characters, she really brought the whole thing to life for me. Big Mav was my favorite character, especially how he was portrayed on audio. The only other thing I would like to add is that the BEST kind of book is one where you are not only one hundred percent drawn into the story but also where you can learn things. This covered both of those bases.

What did you love best about The Vacationers?

The setting - I need to go to Mallorca now!

Any additional comments?

This was by first book by Emma Straub and I loved it. I think my favorite aspect of the book was that it didn't focus on one character at all throughout, there really were shining moments for all of the Post family as well as Carmen, Charles, and his husband. I'm surprised at the negative reviews and the "shallow-ness" of the characters others are touting.Kristen Sieh did a fantastic job - she had lots of different voices and accents that I thought really brought the characters to life. At times, I would find myself repeating what she said with the same inflection and laughing to myself. I wonder if I read this myself instead of listening to it I would feel different. Either way, I really enjoyed this quick, pleasing read!

Okkkk so. Let's talk about this book. I liked it! I keep telling people about it because I think the situation Libby is thrown into is horrifying yet absolutely makes for a good story line. And Paul. I love Paul! He's funny, witty, loving, etc. Great character. I found myself turning to this book even during short car rides, wanting to find out what happened to Libby in the end, after her trip from Vieques ended. But ugh. The epilogue kind of killed it for me. Not KILLED it, killed it, because I'm still giving it 4 stars (maybe slightly generous but I can't bring myself to knock it down to 3) but it was just like: "ok, here's the perfect pretty little bow to tie up the ending of this book." And I wanted something...meatier. Like, the entire book, subconsciously I think, I was waiting for what happened to poor ol' Libby in the end. But then it happened and I was like ughh this isn't cutting it for me. (Spoiler alert!!)

I didn't WANT her to die in the end, I mean I liked Libby. But come onnnnnn...cancer magically wasn't killing her, marriage to Shiloh, twin girls. She didn't even lose her hair. I mean, really? Far-fetched. I'm not going to re-write the end of this book; it's not mine to dictate. But from a reader perspective, I think I was just left wanting something more realistic to happen in the end versus a true Hollywood ending. Wrap it up in sparkly paper and stick a bow on top. Does this mean I think you should scrap the entire thing? Nah, give it a go.

Oh! I really want to go to Puerto Rico now.

Any additional comments?

This book was LONG...maybe too long for me to have listened to. Lots of details that likely could have been excluded to pair it down a bit. For example: the story starts out with Nora in a tizzy because a security officer from the Golden Gate Bridge calls her and tells her to come immediately. You aren't given any idea as to why he's calling, if something bad has happened, or to whom. Then the story goes back in time three months to gain the context that lead to this event. Well, to be honest, by the time I got BACK to the part about the officer calling Nora, I had completely forgotten this is how the book started. I had to re-listen to the first chapter to give myself a reminder. Soo much happened from point A to point X that I couldn't remember how to get to point Z.

Overall, it was slow. The whole thing. Very slow. The end was good, yes, but nothing mind-blowing. I didn't find myself wanting to listen to this on my rides - it kept me entertained while I was listening but really, there was nothing going on to leave me on the edge of my seat wanting more. I'm not going to bump this one up to 4 stars just because the ending was satisfying because overall it was just ok.
