In Something Lost, Something Gained, Hillary offers her candid views on life and love, politics, liberty, democracy, the threats we face, and the future within our reach. Historia
Imagine a world in which words have colors and sounds have tastes. In this first audiobook by a synesthete about synesthesia, discover the neurological phenomenon, which helped inspire painter David Hockney's sets for the Metropolitan Opera and musician Pharrell Williams' musical compositions. Physicist Richard Feynman experienced it while formulating the quantum theory that won him a Nobel Prize. Sometimes described as a blending of perceptions, synesthesia occurs when only one of the fives senses is aroused but two respond.

What I loved about this book.

Great book, terrible reader…
Revisado: 05-05-23
This book is SPOT ON, informationally. Love it!
But as a synesthete, it was EXCRUCIATING hearing the reader mispronounce so many common and important words…INCLUDING “SYNESTHESIA”!
(“SIN-iss-TEE-zha). The “h” is there for a reason…
And hearing about “SIN-iss-TEETS” brings up a VERY VIVID IMAGE EVERY SINGLE TIME… please replace this audio.

Historia
Our media environment is in crisis. Polarization is rampant. Polluted information floods social media. Even our best efforts to help clean up can backfire, sending toxins roaring across the landscape. In You Are Here, Whitney Phillips and Ryan Milner offer strategies for navigating increasingly treacherous information flows. Using ecological metaphors, they emphasize how our individual me is entwined within a much larger we, and how everyone fits within an ever-shifting network map.

BRILLIANT assessment of current social and political dynamics, written with intensity, wit, and fairness …so it’s likely to be completely ignored by those who need to read it most…

Historia
The Trump Tapes explodes with the exclusive, inside story of Trump’s performance as president—in his own words as he is questioned, even interrogated by Woodward, on the president’s key responsibilities from managing foreign relations to crisis management of the coronavirus pandemic. This is the job Trump seeks again. How did he do the first time? This is the authentic answer, laying bare his repeated failures, obsessions, and grievances.

WARNING: EYE RISK*
Revisado: 11-05-22
*Prolonged, and even brief listening to this interviewed subject may cause significant strain, or even injury, to eye muscles, as you involuntarily and frequently roll them, and have them alternately bulging from their sockets in incredulity and completely balled scoffing, mocking, disgusted contempt at that horrible monster’s deadly lies and chaff-throwing displays of yet again selling an empty product.
Woodward, however, does an excellent job. I wish he’d called Trump on basic math concepts, however. That’s cringeworthy when he agrees with 45(i2x)’s Covid testing frequency complaint justifications, as well as simple vote count tabulation (okay, ADDITION) problems. Hardest of all is the literal sound of that mouth-breathing million-killing creature’s speaking voice on recording of ANY kind, to ANY even partially OBJECTIVE listener.
Props to Woodward

Distracting narrator mispronunciation
Revisado: 06-25-20
I’m finding it INORDINATELY districting listening to this book with the narrator mispronouncing so many words. For example: “Calais” (in France) ≠ “Kuh-LAY-iss.” I’ve heard digital PDF readers do a better job. How hard is it to look up how to pronounce words you don’t know?

Excellent stories by a master! Sound problem...
Revisado: 04-25-20
While the stories in this new book are some of Stephen King’s most intimate expressions of character, and the expert readers did a superb job, there is a sound that plays underneath all of the dialogue that sounds like a fan or air conditioner. At 1.5x speed, the sound resembles an old film projector. A big distraction for an otherwise STELLAR audiobook.

Though the information was useful, if the author is going to say "Entrepreneur" so many times in a row, he should really learn to pronounce it...

Winner of the 1982 National Book Award for Biography, Mornings on Horseback is the brilliant biography of the young Theodore Roosevelt. Amazing writing, and the sound of swallowing
Revisado: 04-01-16
This book is a fantastic accounting of TR's family and pre-presidency years.
However, it appears the narrator either has something stuck in his throat (perhaps the microphone?) or is eating a cough drop or the like, between seemingly every paragraph of the narration. It's QUITE distressing to someone with good ears.
