Historia
Life can kick us when we are down. In Shawn Speakman's case, he is fighting back. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2011, Speakman beat the disease as well as the massive medical debt he amassed from its treatment. He did this by publishing Unfettered, an anthology featuring short stories donated by some of the best science fiction and fantasy writers working today. Speakman has again collaborated with celebrated genre authors to publish Unfettered II.

Each story in the Dying Lands Chronicle have pulled me deeper. I wish I had unlimited resources to pour unto Cooper's lap so he would be able to write more and faster. I can't get enough!

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

Most of us have heard of gluten - a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we've been missing the root of the problem?

Fascinating information but horrible narration
Revisado: 09-18-17
Just finished the book, excited to try the diet. But worst narrator I've ever listened to. Usually I return a book if someone is this bad after five minutes but I really wanted the information through audiobook so I am endured at 15% faster speed

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over? People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why.

I really loved the premise of this entire book. So many stories to illustrate the point as well. The narrator was just okay enough to listen to this great book.

Sacrifice. The single act capable of bringing both death and life simultaneously. Thannuel Kerr is handsome, young, and brash, fumbling through childhood toward his inevitable inheritance: the next Lord of the Western Province. He struggles to accept his arranged marriage and to grow into the man he must become. The journey toward that end, however, is fraught with more peril than he could possibly imagine.

Yes!! My new favorite author!
Revisado: 12-20-16
If this is the prelude, I'm strapping in for the ride!! In the fantasy genre, one of the things I really value is character development and growth. I want to feel I could be in the story, that my friends could grow into heroes with me. Halfway through Altar of Influence I was convinced that, if I were born on Våleira, I too, could have been Thannuel Kerr!
The world building is fantastic, the history of the world is woven in expertly, and the magic system feels so real!
I can't wait for the series to continue. This story, although self-contained and perfect as a stand-alone book, seems to set up a bigger story that feels like it has epic potential.
Jacob Cooper has joined the ranks of my favorite fantasy authors - Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Michael J. Sullivan

Historia
Extraordinary things happen when we harness the power of both the brain and the heart. Growing up in the high desert of California, Jim Doty was poor, living with an alcoholic father and a mother chronically depressed and paralyzed by a stroke. Today he is the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University, of which the Dalai Lama is a founding benefactor.

Great intro into meditation without religion
Revisado: 08-06-16
I really enjoyed this introduction to meditation in the story of a doctor's journey discovering meditation as a child. Most meditation books I've listen to seem to be firmly rooted in Buddhism. Well that isn't bad, it was refreshing to have one rooted in how the brain functions and how compassion is part of being human.
I really enjoyed hearing his story.

Great teaser!
Revisado: 01-08-13
Love that the Prologue was released early. This prologue felt quite different then previous ones as it centered on characters we've been following already instead of introducing new characters and then not revisiting them for half a book. So excited for the rest of the book to be released!
