Historia
What do you do when there are no borders? When the lines you thought existed simply vanish? How do you plant your feet to make a stand when you no longer know what side you’re on? The war has come home. For over forty years, Art Keller has been on the front lines of America’s longest conflict: The War on Drugs. His obsession to defeat the world’s most powerful, wealthy, and lethal kingpin—the godfather of the Sinaloa Cartel, Adán Barrera—has left him bloody and scarred, cost him the people he loves, even taken a piece of his soul.

Description of life below our southern border. I see why they want to escape from that.
Revisado: 11-16-24
Disliked ending for a most sympathetic character. Probably realistic but still pretty sad. Darn.

For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

I was expecting "dark".
Revisado: 05-25-24
The narrator was great but the stories were just so so. I was expecting the usual Stephen King with scary stories. Sort of disappointed.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Fascinating!
Revisado: 05-09-15
I have often wondered why in the world anyone would take a passenger ship out on the ocean during wartime. The book was informative and explained goings on in detail. I could say more but it would give away too much. Let's just say this wasn't an accidental sinking and both sides had something to gain from it.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

"What War Does to Dreamers"
Revisado: 12-28-14
What made the experience of listening to All the Light We Cannot See the most enjoyable?
The narrator was on point. I felt this book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Frederick. He turned out to be the strongest after all. It took courage and strength to stand up like he did. In his place 99.9% of people would have gone along with the crowd. This is what made the Nazi's so successful. Few would stand up to their cruelty.
What does Zach Appelman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The father trying to make his daughter think all was well in prison. The voice made me feel his pain and his attempt to shield his daughter from the truth.
Who was the most memorable character of All the Light We Cannot See and why?
Werner. Sensitive. Caring. Born in the wrong time. Caught up in events he had no control over.
Any additional comments?
Since listening to this book I have gone to google to see what others think became of the "sea of flame" jewel. To this day I really don't know. Some days I am sure of what became of the stone but other days I am not sure. Just to show that this book sticks with you long after the last word.

Heart Break
Revisado: 12-28-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Gives insight on what it may be like to be totally different from everyone else in school or in town. I remember an Asian girl in my high school who dyed her beautiful long black hair blond. How she must have struggled to fit in. To be blonde. To be White.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Everything I Never Told You?
When James handed the book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" to his daughter . What the hell was this guy thinking?
Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?
Hanna. In the background. The one who saw all.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. A little depressing. Family can be toxic.
Any additional comments?
I saw early on what the parents were doing to this girl. I wished I could have gone in and yelled.......STOP!!!! YOU ARE DESTROYING YOUR DAUGHTER!!
