Could have been read by a better narrator

While I enjoyed learning more about General Chamberlain, this would have been more enjoyable if the narration had been easier to hear. The timber of the narrator’s voice was too low and I had to keep going back over many chapters in order to make out what he was saying. Authors should leave the performances to professional narrators.

What happened to Matthew Perry is heartbreaking. Hearing him tell his story is haunting. It’s sad that in the end Matthew lost his fight for the life he ultimately wanted to lead when he was supposed to finally be sober. Just devastating.

The information in this book is not unwelcome, but it is the most frightening account of what is happening in this country in real time. If Americans don’t start paying attention to what is going on around them, we are doomed to lose our democracy and our way of governance within the next two years.

This story held my interest to the very end. My only disappointment was the narrator not learning how to pronounce several of the names given in the book. It would be a good idea if narrators would learn how to say the names of people before actually recording. Steny Hoyer was pronounced “Steeny” instead of “Stenny” and the narrator gave the name of Sherrilyn Ifill as Charlotte. There were several others that I won’t list here. Overall, though, I won’t say I enjoyed the book because it’s a frightening narration of how the US has gotten in the position we are in today with right-wing anti-government groups and the GOP trying to overturn our system of government. It makes me fear for my grandchildren’s future.

In the 2018 gubernatorial race in Georgia, people of all races, ethnicities, and ages saw the change they wanted in their state in Stacey Abrams. Unfortunately, they were denied their choice by the machinations of one party, and in particular one man. Stacey Abrams has written an informative and enlightening book regarding the state of politics and elections in our country in today’s hyper partisan atmosphere. We should all heed the warning.

The FBI Way - Frank Figliuzzi

I love seeing Frank Figliuzzi on “Deadline Whitehouse” with Nichole Wallace on MSNBC. He’s extremely knowledgeable and always gives concise answers to her numerous astute questions. However, while I enjoyed his book, there were numerous times when I thought I was listening to William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk (the original Star Trek tv series). Frank reading his own book wasn’t the best idea. There are numerous instances where Frank reads In. An. Extremely. Halting. Manner. Maybe it’s the lawman in him, but it was a little off putting after awhile. But his knowledge of the workings of the FBI and information about cases he’s familiar with (without divulging classified info) was very interesting. I do recommend this audiobook, as long as you don’t mind Frank’s reading cadence.

The author does an okay job of laying out Rudy’s rise to his current infamy. It’s a sad ending for someone who rose to the occasion of the 9/11 attacks and was able to calm a frightened city, country, and world.

Mr. Strzok deserves the undying gratitude and respect of this nation. A public servant for decades, he was vilified by the criminal that currently occupies the White House for no other reason than he told the truth. What Mr. Strzok did in his private life is his business and no one else’s, other than his wife and other parties involved. He should be reinstated as a member of the FBI and allowed to continue his career keeping our country safe. What he and the DoJ have been going through under the administration of 45 and his band of miscreants is frightening for our democracy. Hopefully, when this administration is gone, the ship of state will be righted, and for that we have the career members of our government to thank. Best of luck and all good wishes to the author and his family.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff has been through hell. Sometimes our true friends can see what we don’t want to see. It’s unfortunate that she didn’t pay attention to them. The Ts don’t care about anyone but themselves and I’d be willing to bet each of them would throw the other under the bus to keep themselves out of trouble. I hope the author is able to one day come to terms with all she has been through and learns the lesson Maya Angelou taught us... when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. An excellent book, but none of it is surprising given the characters.

I would like to know the author’s current opinion of the DoJ in light of his final chapter statement that it seems to be holding firm as an institution. He didn’t realize that Barr would turn it into 45’s personal law firm at the time he finished writing this book.

All in all, I wasn’t surprised by much in the book. Having watched 45’s antics throughout the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s, and finding him abhorrent, what he’s done to this country isn’t a surprise. Mr. Stevens has done a good job lamenting the loss of the GOP. What will he do to help replace it?
