Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

Loved it. The word Up epitomizes Mr. Washington. He was always reaching "up" and achieving. There didn't seem an ounce of animosity inside this man. Only to improve himself and help others to improve themselves.

Historia
Tim Scott, an African-American US senator, and Trey Gowdy, a white US congressman, won’t allow racial lines to divide them. They work together, eat meals together, campaign together, and make decisions together. Yet in the fall of 2010 - as two brand-new members of the US House of Representatives - they did not even know each other. Their story as politicians and friends began the moment they met and is a model for others seeking true reconciliation.

Serious, Funny or Seriously Funny
Revisado: 07-18-19
I don't know how the book was to be categorized. If it was meant to be funny, I would give it another star, but since I don't know, I can't. I found it hysterical and cheesy after listening to two other books by Lauren Willig. The other two books were, The Summer Country and The Ashford Affair. They were full of mystery, suspense and the romance was more flirtatious. These two books were a great listen. This book was predictable. The "love scenes" had my laughing like a 12-year old girl and I'm in my 50's. There were cores, shafts, multiple body parts getting hard and virginity popping. This was the author's first book and a first book in a series. I will probably skip the other books in the series for now and go on to her other works.

Modern Day Author
Revisado: 07-09-19
I may have found an author to listen to from this century! I like how there are multiple story plots, but they are connected. There is mystery and just the right amount of romance...no uncomfortable sex scenes, just perfect flirtation and anticipation. The narrator does a great job with all the different voices. Her use of the opposite sex voice isn't annoying at all. Excellent job~
