Historia
At the grisly murder scene of a teen prostitute, Virginia state trooper Riley Tatum's past roars back to haunt her. When she was a teenage runaway, she was kidnapped, drugged, and left unconscious on the streets. She has no memories of what happened, only strange recurring dreams of two men playing cards. Former FBI agent Clay Bowman, Riley's old flame, is Shield Security's newest member. He's plagued by the unsolved case of a serial killer nicknamed the Shark who murdered girls as part of a sadistic poker game.

Predictable
Revisado: 01-03-21
Nothing new here. The “surprise “ at the end wasn’t, and there wasn’t a single character you cared anything about, except maybe the dog. The performance was outstandingly average until the reader attempted to inject some “maleness” in her voice for the men. At that point it was an embarrassing caricature.

Not a bad story
Revisado: 08-02-20
Although it contains a number of the annoying “smart people making stupid choices “ episodes as well as no credible explanation why the police were never contacted, and while the reader was competent, my enjoyment of the passable novel was completely overcome by the narrators distractingly awful attempts at accents. In an out of dialects that exist nowhere on the planet, the reader struggles to differentiate the characters with a series of vocal affects that could, at one’s most charitable, be described as annoying.

Welcome to the end of the world. One minute, people are going about their lives, and the next—not. In the wake of the inexplicable purge, only a handful of young misfits remains. When it all went down, “Wizard of Odd” Dev Brinkman was seeking shelter from the taunts of his classmates. Goth girl Lucy Abernathy had lost her best friend and had no clue where to turn. And Twinkie-loving quarterback “Marcus” Haddad was learning why you never discuss politics and religion in polite company—or online.

A good writer, but..,
Revisado: 07-12-20
The writing is clever, turns of phrase witty, and character development extensive, but the story is boring and nonsensical. A long depressing slog to nowhere.

Historia
1934 was a pivotal year in the ongoing battle between the FBI and America's most famous outlaws - it was a year of giant personalities and huge shoot-outs, and it marked the deaths of John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, and Pretty Boy Floyd, among others. But that year, FBI agent Sam Cowley's priority was to nab the most dangerous gangster this country has ever produced, a man so violent he scared Al Capone and was booted from the Chicago mob - Baby Face Nelson.

A tour de force. Wow.
Revisado: 01-02-19
I am familiar with Hunter’s work, and have read others in this series, but this is unprecedented. Tying in the history of gangsters in the 30’s, Hunter has introduced Charles Swagger, grandfather of Bob Lee, and woven a brilliantly plausible re-think of the history of that era. His best work so far, and worth every second of your read or listen

Well written, but
Revisado: 12-09-18
it’s just not that interesting a story. Not as a stand-alone, anyway. I don’t care about the characters, and the story is one I’ve heard a thousand times. Even the crises were the same (cave-ins) both times. This is a good writer, uninspired.

Historia
In the year 2044, reporters from the Public Relations Ministry gather at the home of Benjamin Harker, the last surviving member of the Harlem Hellfighters. At the age of 144, he is the oldest recorded man alive. Hidden among them, Clyde Bruner is looking for a different kind of story. Across the US, despite the Great Walls and patrol drones built to keep America secure, something has found its way in. Now, towns are vanishing during the night. Entire populations, gone, only to return after the sun sets, changed, unholy, and lethal. Whatever this evil is, its spreading west.

Great book, terrific writing
Revisado: 11-30-18
Traces of Steven King with intricately woven backstories. I enjoyed the nods to other vampire novels (and even movies) thru the names of main characters. The reader, however, left a good deal to be desired, with an appalling attempt at a Germanic-type accent, many annoying misreads, (i.e. Tommy Dorset’s (sic) band), and an unpleasant sing-song-y style.

Mr. Clegg can WRITE. Unlike a lot of modern authors, he has some real skills, but his story is formulaic and oh-so-predictable. C’mon, Doug. You can do better than this!.

A good plot
Revisado: 04-22-18
Ark of the Covenant, weather control and global disaster- how could you go wrong? Well, by wasting major characters who had received a great setup, by interjecting useless and nonsensical back story and adding dialogue that is stilted and inane. A good editor could have saved this book. The performance was reasonably good, except for that accents, which were laughable. Either master them or don’t use them. The performance definitely outshines the material.

Historia
It’s been 30 years since the terrifying abduction of twin sisters Rebecca and Molly Underhill by a deranged man who lived in a cabin behind their house. Fearful of retribution against their family, the girls kept the incident secret. Rebecca, now a painter and art teacher, suddenly begins getting mysterious text messages. Is Molly - long lost to cancer - trying to communicate? It couldn’t be their attacker from so many years ago; he was imprisoned for a similar crime at about that same time. Surely he’d still be in jail or dead by now - wouldn’t he?

A good book, a spectacular performance
Revisado: 04-13-18
There is a formula to this sort of book. Everyone knows it. Thousands of painters portray the same still life, but the true artists shine through, like a speck of sunlight on the apple. This book contains many beautiful, thoughtful specks, and although it contains few real surprises, the artful brush strokes of the author make it superb reading...or listening. The voice actor featured in this particular performance is uniquely gifted. She reads each line as though she is relating her memory of the events for the first time. Absolutely gripping.
