Heroine is headstrong, rash and far too young. Hero is too old and experienced for her. Nobody is the least likeable. A must for me to enjoy a book. This isn’t worthy of the author

It’s hard to believe this is a Lisa-Kleyps book. I have read practically everything she's writteb except this one. I wish I hadn’t picked this one. I am afraid it's going back to Audible for a refund.

Matthew Brenher's narration was awful. It drove me crazy. The plot drug on and on and on and..... Finding out this is one of those to-be-continued novels was the last straw.

Historia
DEA agent Luke Callahan has suffered one loss too many and a fishing trip with his brothers is just what his broken spirit needs to heal. What he doesn't need is a gorgeous stowaway harboring secrets and running from killers. Never mind that he does his best work undercover. Maddie Kincaid is accustomed to trouble, but she'd hoped to leave it behind when she settled in peaceful Brazos Bend. Who would have guessed that helping a gentle old man would land her in the middle of an attempted murder - her own?

Horrible Narrator

I disliked the narrator so much that I returned the book to Audible. I love Emily March books but the narrator killed this one for me.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-15-15
I have enjoyed the Fool's Gold series from the beginning. & always look forward to the next story. This one was a disappointment for me. I could never care about any of the. main characters & the plot is one of my least favorites.
H/H meet, fall in immediate lust, don't get along until they do , then decide it's true happy-ever-after love. all in about a week's time. uh uh. No! Plus, with the exception of a few FG characters showing up out of the blue, the town itself is nowhere to be seen. I'm sure many Susan Mallery fans will love this book.. I am a long -time fan myself , but this episode just didn't work for me. Sorry.

Historia
War hero Alistair Carsington really really loves women, and his romantic impulses have landed him in nearly as much danger as the Battle of Waterloo. To avoid his usual temptations and perhaps even repay the friend who saved his life, he's exiled himself to a place far from civilization - Derbyshire - in winter! Fate laughs at his good intentions and drives him straight into conflict with Miss Mirabel Oldridge, his match in tenacity, intelligence, and deviousness - who also happens to be wildly irresistible.

Least Favorite of the Series
Revisado: 05-30-15
What would have made Miss Wonderful better?
I don't really know.
Has Miss Wonderful turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?
None of them.
What character would you cut from Miss Wonderful?
I don't know.
Any additional comments?
This is my least favorite of the Carsington Brothers series. Alastair & Mirabel are both boring & so is the canal plot. I plodded on with listening, but it never improved for me. I thought the narrator did an admirable job with the story. Still, after Rupert (Mr Impossible) & Benedict (Lord Perfect), Alastair is a huge disappointment.

He's a reclusive writer whose imagination creates chilling horror novels. She's a down-on-her-luck actress reduced to staging kids' puppet shows. He knows a dozen ways to kill his characters with his bare hands. She knows a dozen ways to kill an audience with laughs. But she's not laughing now.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-19-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I guess they can't all be winners. This one just didn't work for me. Maybe part of it is my aversion to puppets. Setting that aside, I feel that a reader needs to relate in some way to the protagonists of a story. Can't do that with Annie & Theo. Or any of the other supposedly quirky characters in the book. The old ladies should have been arrested. Annie seems to have multiple personality disorder and Theo is just a bully. Ugh. I'm glad I only bought the audio version & didn't waste any more money with the hard copy version.
So sad.
If you’ve listened to books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips before, how does this one compare?
Horribly.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erin Bennett?
Not good. Although Anna Fields is hard to replace due to her many narrations of SEP's books, it surely isn't impossible. They are many excellent readers around. Ms. Bennett isn't one of them.
Could you see Heroes Are My Weakness being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Noooo!

I enjoyed the series of 3 books of the 3 brothers. Cute, light reading. The reader had a pleasant voice and did a good job.

Too Draggy
Revisado: 02-17-12
Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Joyce Bean?
Yes. I am a fan of both Nora Roberts & Joyce Bean. I just didn't care for this particular book. It dragged on and on and I was very ready for the end. Which could be predicted hours before. Ms. Roberts is fantastic at portraying relationships, but I just never felt the connection here that I got from the Chesapeake series.
Would you be willing to try another book from Nora Roberts? Why or why not?
Of course. I love her.
Which character ??? as performed by Joyce Bean ??? was your favorite?
I don't really know. They all seemed a bit insipid. Ms. Bean has a fantastic range of voices and did her best here.
Did Blue Smoke inspire you to do anything?
Not read/listen to it again.
