Awful
Revisado: 10-03-21
Deeply disappointed that I spent a credit on this. The narrator has one tone and one speed. The content is as dry as cardboard. Completely lifeless, pun intended

Myth, Symbolism, Secrets
Revisado: 09-24-21
Lots and lots of secrets. Truthfully I would have enjoyed this better if I didn’t have to start and stop so many times.
I kept getting confused when an account was being given of a current day event but then there was a flashback that was unannounced.
Keep in mind that the girls in the school do the things girls will do. And the generation 20 years previously did the same bad things and worse. Secrets, remember.
The Latin and it’s translation here and there was fun.
All in all not the best book ever. But far from the worst.

There’s a whole lotta kissing going on
Revisado: 09-19-21
I almost lost my patience with this because the kissing, lust and one sex scene. But I just had to find out who she married. The ending was pretty good even though you have to wait a long time for it.

Very Bad
Revisado: 09-18-21
Manipulative, snotty, immature, vapid, overly-dramatic protagonist. What grown woman calls her friend at 2:00 am to tell her that her dog died the other day?
In describing the situation that led to moving to Vermont she includes a rapturous description of the peach bellini she was drinking and then effusively describes the color of her husband’s eyes (she was not a teenager; they were not newly married)

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Carey and six-year-old Jenessa have been living in the woods with their mother for as long as they can remember; the sheltering trees and a broken-down camper are all they know. But what they’ve never been told is that Carey vanished from the real world ten years ago, when their mother took her, causing an uproar in the media - and in her father’s life.

Sequel?
Revisado: 09-18-21
I would love to see a sequel. I enjoyed seeing Carrie assess and question the beliefs that structured her life in the woods. And I appreciated that her realities were revealed slowly. Once she comes out of the woods she is treated well by her family, with respect, gently. And yet she has so many feelings to face, shame, betrayal, grief. This is a memorable story full of joy and tragedy.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

There’s a lot of story here
Revisado: 09-17-21
The main character starts out being less than likable. Don’t worry things will get better in time. There is a character that appears very early on that dies. I hated that and saw no reason his death advanced the plot.
If violence to children triggers you, skip this one.
I wonder if reporters who expend themselves on intense stories get PTSD. This reporter does and with good reason.
And lastly, Trooper the dog. If you don’t love him you have a heart of stone.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Tacky
Revisado: 09-16-21
Not what I expected. I have never watched the film but I’ve seen the picture of Audrey Hepburn in front of Tiffany’s. The picture is so elegant.
This audiobook is not. It is as if one offensive sexual trope after another is paraded past the listener. I couldn’t finish it despite it being only two hours long.

I DO NOT cry. I refuse to cry at a book. Ok, I cried hard at this book. David’s illness was so real, so close to my own family experience.
Ada was described so fully that I could feel what she felt, although I am not brilliant and able to decode.
