Terrible narrator!!!!

The story is classic Spenser, but ruined by the awful narration. I thought David duke was the pits, but this guy is worse.
AUDIBLE! PLEASE!! Re-record the middle books in this series with Joe Mantegna narrating!

Historia
Hired by Loudon Tripp, an aggrieved Boston aristocrat who believes his late wife Olivia's brutal street slaying to be something other than random violence, Spencer immediately senses that his client's picture-perfect portrayal of his family life is false. For starters, the victim's reputation is too saintly, her house is as lived-in as a stage set, and her troubled children don't appear to be the product of a happy home.

Great story, lousy narrator
Revisado: 11-04-22
Please, please, please! Will somebody convince Joe Mantegna or Michael Prichard to do new recordings of the mid list Spenser novels? The guy who read this book gives Susan and Hawk the most bizarre voices you can imagine. It’s just awful to listen to a good story being mangled by bad narration.

Historia
Ten years ago, Paul Giacomin's corrupt father and loose mother used the boys as a pawn in their violent race: Only Spenser could call them off and straighten out the misled teen—almost getting killed in the process. Paul is now 24 and reconciled to his mother's wanton ways. But when Patty Giacomin vanishes, Paul begs Spenser to help him rescue her from the clutches of her boyfriend, a shady character he's sure coerced his mother into running.

Great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 07-15-22
I love Spencer novels, when narrated by Michael Prichard or Joe Mantegna there’s no better listening. Unfortunately this book is narrated by some guy named David Dukes who gets it 100% wrong. His interpretation of Hawk is especially painful. I dearly wish there was an alternative recording of this book.

An unambitious twenty-two-year-old, Darren lives in a Bed-Stuy brownstone with his mother, who wants nothing more than to see him live up to his potential as the valedictorian of Bronx Science. All that changes when a chance encounter with Rhett Daniels, the silver-tongued CEO of Sumwun, NYC's hottest tech startup, results in an exclusive invitation for Darren to join an elite sales team on the thirty-sixth floor.

Tedious

I keep forgetting that when you see the word ‘satire’ used to describe a book these days what it generally means is not the rapier wit of previous eras but instead a painfully overworked story populated by unpleasant characters. The ‘daily deal’ blurb made me hope for subversive, what I got was sophomoric. Returning it.

Historia
Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.

Difficult to hear/understand
Revisado: 10-03-20
This is one of those times when the narrator is working too hard at creating different voices/accents for the various characters, with the end result being a book that is so difficult to hear/ understand that it turns listeners away. Combine this with a lackluster story and you will understand the 2 stars I have selected.

Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Annoying
Revisado: 10-27-19
I heard Ms Bardugo interviewed about this book and was eager to hear more... unfortunately her description of the book turned out to be far more interesting and well-crafted than the book itself. This is one of those modern mysteries in which instead of building tension and curiosity through the deft interweaving of real clues and false suggestions as the story unfolds the author instead flip flops back and forth between past and present, constantly referring to some BIG IMPORTANT THING that has already happened - and upon which so many things hinge!!! but not telling you what that is. This is not suspense, this is tedium. Also disappointed to find yet another contemporary novel with a female lead who must constantly make poor decisions in order for the plot of unfold. And finally - why oh why did the female narrator elect to make the 'voice' she uses for Dawes 50% softer/quieter than every other character? The effect was that we had to choose between missing pretty much everything that character said or continually turning the volume up and down and going back to re-listen. Ugh ugh ugh.

In this smart and funny book, celebrated cartoonist Zach Weinersmith and noted researcher Dr. Kelly Weinersmith give us a snapshot of what's coming next - from robot swarms to nuclear fusion powered-toasters. By weaving their own research and interviews with the scientists who are making these advances happen, the Weinersmiths investigate why these technologies are needed, how they would work, and what is standing in their way.

Poor narration, extra snark
Revisado: 01-05-19
This book and particularly the narration failed to live up to the promise of it's description. There are a few authors out there who are both excellent writers and excellent audiobook narrators, but Mr and Ms. Weinersmith are not among that small group, so the content can be obscured by less than brilliant elocution. Additionally, the Weinersmiths seem to think that the best way to write about complex technology for a lay audience is to use large doses of cuteness and snark. No thank you.
