A decent read
Revisado: 11-08-24
I love Kathryn Croft and this short was easy to read. Very sad premise for the main plot but interesting characters and character development. I would likely listen to it again in a year or two.

Not a favorite

I usually really like this author and maybe it’s because I don’t care for cult stories but I didn’t care for this at all and don’t know why I finished it. This author has way better novels than this one.

Martha Ratliff conceded long ago that she’d likely spend her life alone. She was fine with it, happy with her solo existence, stimulated by her work as a librarian in Maine. But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Historia
For myself and Lauren, my 10-year-old daughter No 3 Beech Close was to be our refuge after two years of hell nursing my sick mother. In need of a fresh start and wanting to distance ourselves from the bad memories of my mother’s house we moved to Beech Close, a small cul-de-sac of six houses situated around a picture-perfect green. It seemed perfect but I had underestimated the secrets that this tightknit community shared. Within hours of moving in my next-door neighbour Valerie made it abundantly clear we were not welcome.

Good storyline, but surprised at Imogene’s reading!
Revisado: 03-27-24
The story kept me engaged, not my favorite by this author but worth the listen. Imogene’s performance had me cringing and actually stop the book several times and start others because of how over done and shrill a lot of it was. I usually enjoy her as the reader but not in this!

I can’t believe how bad the book is. It’s possible that the narrator makes it so bad but I’ve loved 9 out of 10 of his books and then this one fell so flat. Disappointed

Originally, when I started listening, I had the reader at the wrong speed, and I couldn’t believe that anybody would have him read for their book, but as the book went on, and I had the timing right, I was able to deal with the reader.
It was a really good book and he was an OK narrator. The book was awesome. I love her.
