I found an old childhood photo. There's something terribly wrong with it. My husband insists on keeping this one painting of a woman. I listened to a true crime podcast... about myself. UNDER YOUR BED brings you 13 terrifying tales for your darkest nights. From horrific games of hide-and-seek to sinister paintings, from tiny fairy gardens to malevolent doppelgängers, this collection is guaranteed to make you fear what goes bump in the night. These tales are longer than those in the bestselling Don't Scream collection by Blair Daniels. Praise for Under Your Bed "The stories are good and ...

Unintentionally funny narration.
Revisado: 12-12-24
The stories were pretty bad. All were variations on the same theme. And they all ended somewhat awkwardly and ambiguously.
The Virtual Voice narrator was hilarious though. The robotic tone and rhythm. Emphasis on the wrong words. My favorite was the one about space. "She" kept pronouncing "Polish" -the language- like "polish" as in what you use to paint your nails.

But the man standing over her is no doctor she recognizes at the hospital where she works as a successful and respected doctor. He’s a stranger - and he’s calmly and methodically telling her how he's about to attack her. Before Alex can even scream for help, she succumbs to another dose of anesthesia, rendering her unable to defend herself.

Bad narrator choice.
Revisado: 11-23-24
The story was good. Kept me guessing. But, having an American narrate a British story was incredibly annoying. Hearing all the vocabulary that is strange enough as an American listening (surgery for hospital, theater for operating room) was even worse. The only accent attempted was for the Kiwi New Zealand helicopter pilot.

Too similar to Amityville Horror
Revisado: 10-16-24
I felt like I was listening to a cross between Amityville. Circumstances differed, but characters and general plot were too similar.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

So good that I didn't even realize that I had already listened to it until the twist ending!
Could have done without the misogynistic coworker. And the police as well. Definitely made me happy that I live in NE rather than the south.

A seemingly open-and-shut police case with a clear-cut hero and villain turns out to be anything but simple. Late one night in the quiet Hudson Valley town of Havenkill, a distraught woman stumbles into the police station - and lives are changed forever. Aimee En, once a darling of the '80s pop music scene, claims that a teenage boy stole her car, then ran over another young man who'd rushed to help. As Liam Miller's life hangs in the balance, the events of that fateful night begin to come into focus. But is everything as it seems?

Wrong narrator.
Revisado: 06-23-24
I'm not sure if this book was meant to be suspense, but the narrator read it like it was a children's book. I've listened to other books she's narrated and have the same impression. Her tone is so lackadaisical that I find myself even struggling to follow the storyline.
That being said, I can't rightly judge if the story was good or not.
Narrator should do only books without complicated storylines. Fluffy romance or children's stories would suit her better.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

I've never been a fan of Britney, which is not to say that I don't enjoy her music or dancing. I thought that kid crying "Leave Britney alone!" was a bit over the top.
But, after listening to this I get it now. I was so outraged and disgusted by the audacity of the people around her and the way they treated her!
Great book!

I was really looking forward to this one. The story starts off well, had my attention... until I started to fall asleep. Narrator's voice is a bit monotone, but that perfect sound that lulls you to sleep.

I was really struggling to get through this. This is by far the worst narration I have ever heard.
The story was interesting, but took a huge turn in the last few chapters that didn't even make sense.
Very disappointed because usually her books are so good.

I love zombies!
Revisado: 01-12-24
But, the narration was awful. I couldn't tell any of the male characters apart. They all sounded like Teeny Little Super Guy from Sesame St.
It really started to annoy me closer to the latter half of the book.
Other than that, it's a lovely, gory zombie story.
