The wind up for a new beginning

I loved it. Parts of the story made me sad, and Kyler needs to get rid of all his self pity. However, I felt like the pacing was good and the implications for the future books are exciting. In the last 9 hours the story did get confusing and wandered a bit. If you enjoyed the first books I’d definitely give this one a read!

Another home run from Anthony Ryan

If you haven’t read anything by Anthony Ryan but love fantasy, sword fights, and the character the persevere despite all odds then you’ll love this book.

Similar to Blood Song Anthony Ryan’s first book, we start with a young hero and the expectation of a legend about to be born. This is new series set in an entirely new world. The story is told from 1st person present with vague allusions to future events about to unfold. So everything that’s read throughout the story is flavored by the internal bias of a nobody from a rough upbringing. Our main character is a cynic who has to come to grips with religion, fate, and ever increasing intrigue from powers much greater then him.

What keeps the plot moving is our main character resourcefulness and some pretty great fights. I finished this book within two days. Definitely a great read.

Rat is the best character

This book was a masterwork. It was dark, violent, and gruesome. However, the characters continue to fight and struggle against all odds. Some of them just might make it. The narrators were amazing and you don’t need to read the original series to enjoy this one. Definitely the best fantasy release of the year so far.

Sorcery, bravery, and...humor?

This series is fantastic, each one is fun, well written, and funny. Think “Lies of Locke Lamora” for humor, Kvothe’s brilliance from “Name of the wind”, and Sebastian de Castell writing quality all rolled into one.
The Narrator is really good too! Definitely a worthwhile pick up

Wow! What a hidden gem!

I had a lot of extra credits and this came up on my recommended book series so I picked it up on a whim. It was super enjoyable, it’s a lot like a coming of age story since the main character is 16. I love the characters and the magic systems. The main character Hugh is great his biggest problem is he doesn’t know how to make friends and therefore a lot of the first book is him struggling with his self worth and growing into his power. Definitely a must read if you enjoy varied magic systems and character growth.

Really fun romp!

This story has a lot of cool elements, but for about 1/4 of the book there was a lot of basic settlement development which wasn’t that much fun to read. In fact it was kinda frustrating. Overall it was a great read for the genre. I will try the next one.
