Very Good
Revisado: 11-06-23
It really does you no favours being honest and not crawling into the gutter. He would have been a great PM for the country if there had been a party to lead, sadly populism won out.
This book while clearly making (huge) efforts to be as kind as possible was a scathing indictment of the Conservative Party and British politics in general. Rory lifted the curtain in a very honest and reflective way. I would like to have heard more about his personal life and if this book hadn’t been autobiographical we would have heard more of his achievements.
Nicely narrated by the author but if you want voices or impersonations it’s the other Rory you want.
Somehow he got through the entire book without calling Boris Johnson a €ũnT, impressive!

Historia
In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

Fascinating!
Revisado: 07-20-23
Thoroughly enjoyed both the book and the narration despite the often grim subject matter.
Not sure what led me to this title, I was vaguely aware of the history but had no idea of the impact this had.
The author unpacked the history admirably without any sensationalism and a deal of respect for the many victims.
100% recommended.

Being a man with ADHD is not easy at all: you feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities that come with your personal and work life, which does not help you feel like the man you want to be. You have spent your life feeling different and have delevloped low self-esteem, making you think you are not man enough. But trust me, you have nothing to envy others.

Narrated by a 1990’s chess computer.
Revisado: 03-24-23
It sounds like software reading this back, strange inflections that didn’t match context.
Highly off putting as if the reader didn’t know what the meaning of the sentence was is many places.
Content of the book got repetitive, referring to previously mentioned subjects as “thoroughly explored” when they’d been merely brushed upon.
I’ve returned the book, glad some people enjoyed it but just wasn’t for me.

Demented man child.
Revisado: 12-08-22
This is a peculiar presentation but I think I understand why Bob chose to do it.
It would be impossible to convey in words the bizarre and unhinged nature of these interviews.
It made me realise how narrowly we may have missed something more serious than the general misguided ineptitude of his presidency.
What a grotesque, narcissistic, greedy and delusional little man.

Well narrated, poorly written.
Revisado: 11-28-22
Touched on a wide variety of fascinating conspiracy theories and made them sound dull.
Narrator did a good job and almost masked the poor writing.
Some of terminology used in the book has long been retired as it’s offensive to certain groups. I’m sure the author didn’t intend to be offensive, just very out of touch and linguistically impaired. Not good at all.

Historia
Working with thousands of patients, Dr. Gundry has discovered that the “diseases of aging” we most fear are not simply a function of age; rather, they are a byproduct of the way we have lived over the decades. In The Longevity Paradox, he maps out a new approach to aging well - one that is based on supporting the health of the “oldest” parts of us: the microorganisms that live within our bodies.

Riddled with cherry picked studies, conflating causation/correlation.
Where are his published peer reviewed studies? Anecdotal evidence from his allegedly 17 year personal trial. Bold claims, little evidence and the regular reminder to buy into his system and supplements. I smell a con man!

Historia
Woodward, the number-one international bestselling author of Fear: Trump in the White House, has uncovered the precise moment the president was warned that the Covid-19 epidemic would be the biggest national security threat to his presidency. In dramatic detail, Woodward takes readers into the Oval Office as Trump’s head pops up when he is told in January 2020 that the pandemic could reach the scale of the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed 675,000 Americans.

Damning account of Trumps presidency
Revisado: 11-26-20
It’s difficult to believe Trump is as bad as he is portrayed by much of the media. Woodward works hard to not get in the way as we hear Trump prove things are as bad or if not worse than anything you could imagine.
More concerned by his popularity poking numbers than the death toll of his fellow citizens. Beneath contempt.

Historia
McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

Eager to explore more books by McCullough
Revisado: 12-01-18
A very tender portrait relying heavily on personal correspondence. From cradle to grave this is a thorough examination of the life and achievements of Adams if from a partisan perspective. Never dull and full of interesting asides which will no doubt lead to further reading.
I found the narration more than adequate, usual ‘alternative’ pronunciations to be expected from an American reader but well enunciated and consistent, nice performance.

Once in a generation, a historian will redefine his field, producing a book that demands to be read or heard - a product of electrifying scholarship conveyed with commanding skill. Diarmaid MacCulloch's Christianity is such a book. Breathtaking in ambition, it ranges back to the origins of the Hebrew Bible and covers the world, following the three main strands of the Christian faith.

A massive amount of information!
Revisado: 05-21-18
This book is so broad and thorough. I found myself pausing and having to do a little background reading on several occasions.
If you’re familiar with Bart Ehrman and enjoy his style this is a little drier and very dense but shares his impartial historical approach.
A brilliant book that will serve as a reference or just dip in to enjoy some obscure information from the early church.
I found the narration to be disappointing. Poor and inconsistent prononciation was occasionally amusing but got wearing after a while. Not an easy job so I’ll leave it at that.
