Tim Curry is great, story is dull
Revisado: 05-01-22
Not sure what I was expecting, but this was honestly so boring. The whole thing was basically describing what is was like walking in a rock tunnel and scientific facts spouted off without stopping. I guess if you're into geology then you'll love this lol

Performance great, story confusing
Revisado: 03-03-22
Loved the narrator on this. The story was a little odd, not as shocking as some of the reviews make it seem. Mostly this seemed surreal and disconcerting, as no average person would behave like most of these characters do. The descriptions are vivid and entertaining, so overall all right.

Not a bad story, and the narrator seemed to be enjoying himself, though I wish he'd chosen a different accent for Tormey. Lots of focus on the fighting and adventure scenes, less about character development. Still glad this was a free listen for me lol!

Historia
The Eternals, the ruling class of the Future, had the power of life and death not only over every human being but over the very centuries into which they were born. Past, Present, and Future could be created or destroyed at will. You had to be special to become an Eternal. Andrew Harlan was special. Until he committed the one unforgivable sin - falling in love. Eternals weren’t supposed to have feelings. But Andrew could not deny the sensations that were struggling within him. He knew he could not keep this secret forever. And so he began to plan his escape.

Uninteresting characters, but interesting concept
Revisado: 10-27-21
I honestly didn't like this book for about 75% of the story. the main character is fine at the very beginning. A little whiney, but a man doing his job. Then, "enter the woman" cliche, and he fluctuates between a raging incel and a lovesick puppy. The woman seems to be a manipulative vixen of a character, who is then shunted to the side while the men argue about what is right and wrong with reality for most of the story. I won't spoil the end, but the ending made up for it a little. Asimov has great broad concepts for Sci Fi, but his characters are very flimsy and uninteresting. Honestly my go to is to try and ignore them while focusing on the overall universe/mechanics being played out. If you keep that in mind, it might be more enjoyable. And I do realize this was written some time ago, but the sexism can be too much to bear at times.

Not as bad as the other reviews say
Revisado: 08-03-21
If you're expecting some sort of high brow literature (which the first one wasn't) then this isn't for you. It's more of the same from the first one, with geeky trivia and a contest to determine who basically runs humanity's future. To those people saying this was a bunch of political correctness jammed down their throats, maybe you need to reassess what's offensive to you. There was a lot of mention of gender identity and a woman's rights in both the workplace and her personal life. As a straight woman, I enjoyed how those topics were discussed.
One thing I wasn't exactly thrilled with is that all the background characters seemed pretty flat and devoid of personality. They seemed like props to keep Wade's experience moving, with almost automated and blank responses from his friends. In the first book they seemed to have more depth, but in this one they just seemed like blank canvases that cheered or jeered depending on the situation. Even with the addition of a few new characters, they were hardly touched upon at all despite a token analysis of their background.
Despite these shortcomings with the characters, the story was still a fun and geeky escape from the mundane. An enjoyable read if you want more of RP1.

Pretty, but sort of boring
Revisado: 05-20-21
A few things. Perhaps I was not in the mood for such a slow burn magical romance, but this book dragged for me. The descriptions of the world were wonderful, but the story itself failed to capture me. My attention wandered frequently while listening, where I had to go back and rewind to see what had happened. And while I loved Jim Dale when he narrated the Harry Potter books, I hated him here. He sounded like he had a mouthful of rocks the whole time and had very little variation for each character.

Very Angsty compared to the other ones
Revisado: 03-29-21
I enjoyed the story, but it did get old very quickly as the main character whined about how alone he was one minute and how no one wanted to talk to him, and then the next minute was helping people and winning them over. Honestly, just pick one or the other because the moping got annoying very quickly and seemed out of character for Montana.
