I thought the dialouge was a bit cheesey at times but this was a really good and fast-paced story. I usually prefer slow burns but I didn't regret listening to this.

Conflict for the sake of conflict
Revisado: 03-15-22
Despite the bad accents and the mostly boring characters I kept listening because of the few interesting characters and because I love the zombie genre. However, when I was 40 mins away from finishing I decided to stop and never listen to anything by this author again. I won't go into too much detail but I will say the writer has a habit of making the characters act or say things that no reasonable human ever would for the sake of conflict. For example, a character throwing all caution to the wind during a zombie outbreak and what would know gets attacked by a zombie. Anyways towards the end the very obvious antagonist/villain in the group kills a main character and even though everyone in the group hates this antagonist they convinced everyone that another character did it despite the accused being deeply in love/in a relationship with the murdered character. It became very obvious then what was going to happen and by that point I didn't want to stick with the author for another book of illogical characters.

Wish it was longer
Revisado: 08-09-21
I expected it to not be very good since Audible's included section is terrible. This is especially true for what they try to pass off as horror. But this was actually really well written and held my attention. I just wish it was a bit longer.

In the beginning was the Oak, its hungry roots reaching deep into the earth, its gnarled limbs searching the distant heavens. Two hundred years ago, Obediah Magrute worshipped the Oak and died violently beneath it, feeding it with his blood and bone, shouting his chilling curse to the skies. Now, Laura and Mark Avery have come to the bustling little Vermont village.

Yeah, this is Rosemary's Baby
Revisado: 08-08-21
Another reviewer said this was basically Rosemary's Baby and they were absolutely right. And just like Rosemary's Baby the protagonist is dim witted and a useless damsel. It's extremely frustrating because she's boring and annoying from the very start. What makes things even worse is that she witnessed the same things happen to another woman that happened to her but just decides to disregard everything.
I wish audible would include better stories in the "free" category. We're still paying for this stuff in our subscription so it should be better than reading material kept in the bathroom.

Historia
What happens when the inevitable zombie apocalypse finally does arrive? Does the world bow down to the masses of shambling dead? Do we run out with flame-throwers and chainsaw-bladed weed-whackers to take care of the undead horde? No, we do to them what we do to every other annoying person in the world: We put them on television for our entertainment. Set in a near future in which society has dealt with the global outbreak of the living dead, a new highly lucrative international sport, zombie pit fighting, emerges.

It's something to play in the background
Revisado: 11-26-20
There's a lot of filler and that gets really annoying. Im fine with a zombie book not being 100% action but it's too much unessential information in this book. It's also pretty sexist but that didn't come as a huge surprise. There's only one woman charecter in the story and the main charecter describes her as the only woman he ever knew to hold her own in a fight. Really? The only one even during a zombie apocalyspe?
The main charecter is also not very compelling. A badass wise guy type that will only come off as cool to a 12 year old boy. I can't really find myself rooting for him. But it was free and it's 15 hours long so it's something to listen to while im cleaning or at work.

Historia
The zombie apocalypse is over. The humans have won. Life is back to normal. And Rip is bored as hell. It's not much of a life sitting in a call center in the poor town of Spanish Shanty, Florida, answering emails like a drone and listening to customer complaints. Rip was ruler of a tiny kingdom in the Lazy River waterpark, killing zombies by day and making passionate love at night. He misses the danger, the camaraderie, and the blistering love he once knew. He longs to feel Santana - his trusty machete - in his hand and Davia - the fiercest woman alive - in his arms once again.

Revisado: 11-19-20
The best zombie book I've read in awhile. Most zombie books focus solely on the military or scientast looking for a cure. Not this one.

Revisado: 11-12-20
I really liked how a few of the main charecters were Black or a poc. Which I don't come across very often in this genre or similar genres. However, many of the charecters were kind of boring. Overall the book is underwhelming. I don't think it's worth it to continue the seris.

The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

I couldn't finish it.
Revisado: 11-11-20
I used to really love the zombie genre but after barely getting through the second installment of this I think it's time to leave it altogether. Before you assume that I am being dramatic let me just say that I don't think this book is worse than all of the other zombie books that I have read over the years. In fact my biggest criticism is that it is basically a mashup of 90% of the zombie genre. This book is part pro military propaganda, pro cop propaganda and part save the scientists. Mixed in that is a heavy dose of xenophobia and sexism. If that's your thing then this book along with every other typical zombie book is for you.
I've grown tired of this genre and the countless stale retellings of the same thing! It's boring and from the description of the book I thought it would mostly be focused on regular people grappling with the start of the zombie apocalypse. Instead it focused on cops, military bureaucracy and inept or corrupt scientists! Stories of regular people were sprinkled in here or there. These tangents were the most interesting part but then after a few minutes the author went right back to the same thing and I eventually found myself skipping chapters.
Of course it doesn't help that most of the characters are not at all interesting or compelling. This especially goes for the women characters who are basically cardboard cutouts with almost no personality. This of course has to do with how much sexism the writer oozes. It was even topped off with a lead female scientists ranting against feminism. The women are so one-dimensional that two of them fall in love within the span of one day. Which transforms them from competent geniuses into damcels and distress. The most interesting female characters in the story were the kids.
I really did try to ignore all of these flaws and just finish the book but they became too hard to ignore. Especially since the author kept coming out in the characters. Most writers will put some of themselves into their work but with this the author's nationalism and politics kept seeping through and distracting from the story. Which made the characters he was talking through boring. I finally decided that I had enough when he started going on a rant about anti-nationalism and how "intellectuals" were bad for thinking other countries are better than America.
