Historia
In the bestselling The Signal and the Noise, Nate Silver showed how forecasting would define the age of Big Data. Now, in this timely and riveting new book, Silver investigates "The River," or those whose mastery of risk allows them to shape—and dominate—so much of modern life. These professional risk takers—poker players and hedge fund managers, crypto true-believers and blue-chip art collectors—can teach us much about navigating the uncertainty of the 21st century.

A sharp take on the modern world as seen through the lens of poker and sports betting
Revisado: 08-26-24
Exceptionally insightful and educational, I thoroughly enjoyed Silver's latest book. Nate's narration is a real treat, if you're a fan of his podcasts you'll appreciate his accents and humor. I'll be honest, you'd have to be *really* into poker and/or sports betting to fully appreciate chapters two through four. After that, the scope broadens considerably, and there's something for everyone in the back half with deep dives in crypto, investing, AI and politics. Highly recommend, and this might just be the book of the year!

Thrillingly storytelling — brilliant narration

This is just great. Mike Duncan really knows how to assemble a compelling story and with Lafayette he has an amazing subject with which to work. All listeners of The History of Rome and Revolutions podcasts — as well as readers of The Storm Before The Storm — know the joy of Mike Duncan guiding them through epic, operatic moments in western history. Mike Duncan has reintroduced the Marquis de Lafayette for a whole new generation, bringing him to life with all his passions, contradictions and hypocrisies as the implacable Hero of Two Worlds.

Historia
In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps. Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds—from the infamous “kidney theft ring” hoax to a coach’s lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony—draw their power from the same six traits.

The authors bury the lead, but otherwise terrific! Great for forward-thinking and progressive educators and teachers.
