Historia
On New Year's Day, a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills - and unearths a murder committed more than 20 years earlier. It's a cold case, but for Detective Harry Bosch, it stirs up memories of his childhood as an orphan. He can't let it go. As the investigation takes Bosch deeper into the past, a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present. No official warning can break them apart - or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a few hard turns.

Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Fascism in the US had huge Support Among Racists in Congress, police and right wing groups that all look familiar.
Revisado: 01-21-24
Rachel Maddow wrote and beautifully reads with just enough acid to underline forgotten history and heroes who deserve better. I felt, alas, if Trump were substituted for the WW II monster that it would almost fit into today’s headlines. It is must reading!

I was not aware of the heavy casualties taken by bomber crews and especially of the bravery of George McGovern. The crews ranged in age from 18 to 25 and were brave beyond belief.

Welcome Back Mr. Irving
Revisado: 01-24-23
The thing I usually enjoy most about this author is his ability to create such unique characters and how much he makes me identify with them and care about them. This is a gentle story with an engrossing family and their adventures. You won’t be sorry if you spend some time with them.

Terrific
Revisado: 11-29-22
One word of caution. If you have not read a couple of Bosch books, don’t start with this. You need some familiarity with his background. Given that, this is a terrific story as Bosch tries to find the killer of all four members of an L. A. Family that is his consuming cold case.

Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets. Once in the mountains, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear.

Historia
In September 1969, a fumbling, cranky old church deacon known as Sportcoat shuffles into the courtyard of the Cause Houses housing project in south Brooklyn, pulls a .38 from his pocket, and, in front of everybody, shoots the project's drug dealer at point-blank range. The reasons for this desperate burst of violence and the consequences that spring from it lie at the heart of Deacon King Kong, James McBride's funny, moving novel and his first since his National Book Award-winning The Good Lord Bird.

Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

Fascinating and Very Scary
Revisado: 07-09-19
The tragedy at Chernobyl came very, very close to wiping out major cities and endangering millions. Government “experts” could not accept the terrible situation and nobody was sure how to avoid a melt down. Government officials kept a blackout on all bad news while citizens and local children were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. The book is a bit heavy on the tech but you will be riveted by the story.

Good story with interesting twists
Revisado: 03-05-19
Imagine the US Army in 25-50 years. The infantryman/woman idiots inside an exoskeleton that takes a lot of the workload. All troops access the next level internet at all times with feeds from drones and command staffers monitoring an array of info sources. That’s the back story of creative sci-fi adventure.
