Historia
In the year 1912, 19-year-old Christy Huddleston leaves home to teach school in the Smoky Mountains – and comes to know and love the resilient people of the region, with their fierce pride, their dark superstitions, their terrible poverty, and their yearning for beauty and truth. But her faith will be severely challenged by trial and tragedy, by the needs and unique strengths of two remarkable young men, and by a heart torn between true love and unwavering devotion.

Excellent!
Revisado: 02-10-20
This is one of my favorite books. I read it before but listening to it gave me such serious joy. I found myself continually choking back tears (which is not like me at all)m. I ask found myself smiling and struggling with whether to listen to large chunks of the story or try to wait longer because I didn’t want it to end. So good.

Like an escape to the countryside.
Revisado: 06-13-18
This book was again, such a wonderful one to listen to. Christopher Timothy is the best narrator I’ve listened to and James Herriot always gets to the heart of the story with his perfect descriptions of countryside and personalities. It’s like hearing stories told by a great friend.

Historia
It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Like hearing a story from your best friend
Revisado: 02-28-18
While this book may have started out a little bit slow, it ended up being one of my favorite books! I could completely imagine the characters and scenes. My dad is a pastor and while he was married young, (unlike this main character) they both have a lot of similarities that made this book endearing and gave me fond comparisons with my own father. I literally felt “At home in Mitford.” The personalities are so realistic. I also love the way the author describes things. She is not fluffy but genuinely helps you picture the scene she has created. Love this book! Also, the reader was excellent with the different voices.

Historia
Moses never wanted to be a leader. Jonah ran away from his mission's call. And when Marcia Moston's husband came home with a call to foreign missions, she was sure God had the wrong number. His call conflicted with her own dreams, demanded credentials she didn't have, and required courage she couldn't seem to find. She promised to follow where God led, but she never thought the road would lead to a Mayan village on a Guatemalan mountainside.

Okay, not what I was expecting. Vague.
Revisado: 09-06-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really. I enjoyed some descriptions of the Guatemalan people but most of the book was about the author, not very much detail about the people she was ministering to. Descriptions sometimes seemed vague. I think the journey she was taking ended well, but took a long time to get there.
Would you be willing to try another book from Marcia Moston? Why or why not?
Probably not. If it is like this book, it could have been condensed to a long magazine article and been more useful in that form.
What aspect of Patty Fograty’s performance would you have changed?
Her voice didn't always seem to fit the characters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.
Any additional comments?
I wanted to like this book, but felt it took too long for too little output.

How will he get on with his new boss? The local farmers? And what will the animals think? This program is filled with hilarious and touching tales of the unpredictable Siegfried Farnon, his charming student brother Tristan, and Herriot's first encounters with a beautiful girl named Helen.

The kind of book that transports you to the country!
Revisado: 08-12-17
I found myself laughing out loud and choking up and various points in this books. The people are so relatable and the country so peaceful. It was also an educational experience learning about the veterinary practice. I loved the reader! I will be looking for more of his books as well.
