Historia
It has been 10 years since Abby Williams left home and scrubbed away all visible evidence of her small-town roots. Now working as an environmental lawyer in Chicago, she has a thriving career, a modern apartment, and her pick of meaningless one-night stands. But when a new case takes her back home to Barrens, Indiana, the life Abby painstakingly created begins to crack. Tasked with investigating Optimal Plastics, the town’s most high-profile company and economic heart, Abby begins to find strange connections to Barrens’s biggest scandal from more than a decade ago,

Couldn't finish it
Revisado: 05-01-18
What character would you cut from Bonfire?
The main character is what bothered me most about this story. I think the author was trying to frame her as a feminist by having her enjoy casual sex, but the character was also constantly acting as if she lacked agency over her life and everyday situations. She was also so overly dramatic that the plot could barely move forward towards the end. I only had an hour left and I couldn't finish the book- I just couldn't listen to the main character obsess for the umpteenth time over things that had already happened and been obsessed over.

Historia
The zoo is nearly empty as Joan and her four-year-old son soak up the last few moments of playtime. They are happy, and the day has been close to perfect. But what Joan sees as she hustles her son toward the exit gate minutes before closing time sends her sprinting back into the zoo, her child in her arms. And for the next three hours - the entire scope of the novel - she keeps on running.

Fantastic

Not only a fast-paced thriller, but also an incredibly good portrayal of motherhood. Put into words things I never could have about being a mom.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Well written but uninteresting
Revisado: 06-10-16
The writing is good quality, clever, and insightful, but unfortunately I was bored by the story and not invested in the main characters until the very end. Even once I did feel invested I found myself wondering how much longer until it would be over. There just wasn't much to the storyline and while I liked the main character I had trouble empathizing with her.

What did you love best about Tales from the Back Row?
As a fashion outsider it was phenomenal to learn about the fashion world from an insider who still maintainers her "outsider eyes." The book was funny and entertaining. I loved it.
