Historia
Ava thought her job as a librarian at the Library of Congress would mean a quiet, routine existence. But an unexpected offer from the US military has brought her to Lisbon with a new mission: posing as a librarian while working undercover as a spy gathering intelligence. Meanwhile, in occupied France, Elaine has begun an apprenticeship at a printing press run by members of the Resistance. It’s a job usually reserved for men, but in the war, those rules have been forgotten. Yet she knows that the Nazis are searching for the press and its printer in order to silence them.

I appreciate the research the author undertook to present this historical fiction of the life during WWII in Paris and Lisbon. A gripping story.

Historia
Martha Ratliff conceded long ago that she’d likely spend her life alone. She was fine with it, happy with her solo existence, stimulated by her work as a librarian in Maine. But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Peter Swanson never disappoints- I’ve read/listened to several and he can be relied on to write a novel that immediately catches my attention and immediately has me hooked.

Historia
Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

A Very Long Winding Story
Revisado: 07-24-24
The reader was great, this novel meandered over a variety of subject plots- none captivating. The plot got lost in the weeds. I just couldn’t get sufficiently interested in what was happening so I kept skipping ahead.

Heartfelt Family Love Story
Revisado: 06-14-24
The readers were very good and put me into the country of Ireland. I enjoyed the love the families had for each other, Jack’s father-in-law, the cousins of young Rebecca, the kindness they exuded. A search for connection and a good read.

Historia
Jane and William are enjoying their honeymoon at an exclusive couples-only resort…until Jane receives a chilling note warning her to “Beware of the couple at the table nearest to yours.” At dinner that night, five other couples are present, and none of their tables is any nearer or farther away than any of the others. It’s almost as if someone has set the scene in order to make the warning note meaningless—but why would anyone do that?

Builds To a Great (Almost Locked Room) Mystery
Revisado: 07-19-23
Slow start, took me awhile to get the characters in my head then I was hooked. I had a bit of trouble with the time sequences at the wrap-up- seemed that a lot of activity took place in what seemed like a short time period. I had to just go with the flow that time was expanding and contracting in a way I was not picturing when I was hearing the narrative. I was not able to guess the ending but I was suspecting an almost Murder on the Orient Express solution.

Rooting for the Killer
Revisado: 07-06-23
Who hasn’t at some time wished a mean, cruel, sadistic, person whose path intersected our own or someone we care about or someone whose cruelty was inflicted on a person or creature who couldn’t defend itself, could be zapped out of existence? The satisfaction experienced when Ruby rids the world of a few such creatures soars and knowing Ruby is a kind, tender-hearted person smoothes and softens the readers vicarious experience of the events. When Ruby is charged with the death of her beloved husband whom she did not harm I was wanting her to be exonerated but wondering how it could happen. A great ingenious plot and wonderful characters, had me held rapt. Great twists right at the end too- I highly recommend!

An Intriguing Story of Families
Revisado: 02-09-23
I found the story somewhat hard to follow at first, listening to the setting and relationships of the characters I was confused as to who was who- in a printed copy I would flip back to the front pages. The story was slow for me until I got deeper into it then my interest was sparked. A great detective story and deep relationships kept me turning pages.

Historia
“I’m sorry but the answer’s no.” Reluctant author, Anthony Horowitz, has had enough. He tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne that after three books he’s splitting and their deal is over. The truth is that Anthony has other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the Vaudeville Theater in London’s West End. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is panned by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Margaret Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

Another Enjoyable Adventure with Tony and Hawthorne
Revisado: 01-04-23
I look forward to each Anthony Horowitz novel with anticipation of a well plotted yarn of detection, rousing exchanges between Tony and Hawthorne, humor, and insightful peeks into the world of a writer! The reader was a pleasure to listen to- he nails the personalities of the characters.

Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Terrible Reader Completely Ruined the Experience
Revisado: 11-05-21
The reader on this audiobook was absolutely awful- I know the story, and even though I was looking forward to hearing it I had to end it after about 5 minutes. The reader limped through the lines as though he was reading text for the first time, reading word for word, minimal expression, stumbling over longer words, halting delivery and dead space while I guess he was trying to pronounce a word. I have never before heard such a dismal delivery of an audible book.
