Delightful
Revisado: 07-25-23
I had no idea Agatha Christie had a sprightly sense of humor. This was a diverting story and it was read well.
I took off one star because I didn’t think it was necessary to have a male narrator and a female narrator.
Very often a good narrator even if they don’t dramatize their voices can just read straight text and equal an excellent narration if the written material is good
But the female narrator was fine took a little bit to get used to at first but it was excellent overall
I really enjoyed the story it was caper-ish

A reluctant ex-spy with demons of her own, Elinor finds herself facing down one of the most dangerous organized crime gangs in London, ultimately exposing corruption from Scotland Yard to the highest levels of government. The private, quiet “Miss White" as Elinor is known, lives in a village in rural Kent, England, and to her fellow villagers seems something of an enigma. Well she might, as Elinor occupies a "grace and favor" property, a rare privilege offered to faithful servants of the Crown for services to the nation.

This narration ruins excellent writing
Revisado: 03-30-23
I'm a fan of J. Winspear and read all her books. Ths narrator 'acts' too much and renders the characters blase and condescending, so unlike the wonderful characters Winspear crafts. The narrator ruins an excellent book.
The story is excellent.
The narration should be straightforward and not with peaks and inflections characterizing an actress/narrators's point of view or interpretation.
My interpretartion and mostly the author's is what I read for.
Still a fan, of course, of Jacqueling Winspear.

This is excellent via Audible - better than Kindle
Revisado: 10-31-22
I haven't finished the book yet, but am a total fan of R. Galbraith. Do not be concerned about some writer's comments about the reader reading the format - includes many character text messages. I purchased Kindle - IMPOSSIBLE to read due to terrible formattting and laptop - too clumsy to carry to bed :). I was put off by the comments here - but decided to try and it is - great!
No problem at all and I'm totally enjoying the journey of 'reading' this book. Don't hesitate if you enjoy the other Cormoran books - go ahead, you won't be sorry.

Book/Story/Character Fun / Narration Not Fun
Revisado: 09-29-22
I'm a Parker fan and have read and enjoyed all his Spenser books
Now reading Sonny Randall and enjoying the writing here as well.
The others I listened to were very good, this narrator, however,D. Ruffin, is not suited. She tries to be too histrionic and it takes away from Parker's terse prose.
It hurts the book and story.
It's as though she tries to put her own characterization into the characters rather than letting Parker's show through.
It's as though a writer uses multiple exclamation points after each sentence without reason.
Subsequent books have been read by Kate Burton and she is excellent.

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Distracting narration and dramatization from the story by Jane Austen
Revisado: 09-03-21
Too much music and distracting histrionics
Hard to follow the simple story of this humorous Jane Austen novel. I prefer and suggest you just get a straight reading narration from Audible rather than this dramatized and truncated version

BEWARE STRANGE AND TOO LOUD MUSIC IN BETWEEN
Revisado: 01-30-21
I HAVE FINISHED THIS BOOK. I AM A FAN OF E. GEORGE AND THE LYNLEY SERIES. THIS IS MY 13TH W/ AUDIBLE AND KINDLE. WHILE I LIKE THE STORY, I WAS STARTLED MIGHTILY BY WEIRD LOUD CLANGING MUSIC THAT WENT ON TOOOO LONG IN BETWEEN CHAPTERS. . AS I AM ONLY ON CHAPTER TWO I HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN BETWEEN EACH CHAPTER.
THE 'MUSIC' AT THE START WAS TOO MUCH ALSO AND CLANGED INTO THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK'S NARRATION.
THIS OTHER INTERLUDE OF 'MUSIC' SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME, BREAKING MY EARDRUMS AS I STIRRED THE DINNER AND ENJOYED LISTENING TO THE NARRATOR WHO IS QUITE FINE. I THOUGHT THERE WAS WEIRD INTERFERENCE ON MY NETWORK.
BEWARE - FOR YOUR EARDRUMS! SERIOUSLY.
AUDIBLE SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS STUPID MUSIC IN BETWEEN AN OTHERWISE PROVEN AND GOOD AUTHOR'S WORK! IF I WANTED TO LISTEN TO MUSIC I WOULD DO SO. CH
UPDATE: WELL INTO THE BOOK - THE TOO LOUD/TOO LONG CLANGING UGLY MUSIC IS AT THE END OF EACH D--N CHAPTER AND BLEEDS INTO THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT CHAPTER. BE WARNED - IT IS EXTRA LOUD AND HORRIBLE. AUDIBLE: DO NOT ADD MUSIC OR 'MUSIC' TO YOUR LIBRARY OF BOOKS P L E A S E.
THE WRITING AND STORY ARE UP TO PAR W/E. GEORGE AND THE LYNLEY SERIES - SO EXCELLENT IN MY OPINION, MINUS THE EARRACHE. I SHALL COMPLETE THE BOOK.
**ALSO: IT'S ABRIDGED. IT IS MISSING IMPORTANT DETAILS IN THE PRINT VERSION. AVOID ABRIDGED STORIES. AUDIBLE SHOULD MAKE THIS MORE NOTICEABLE - THAT AND PADDING IT W/ LOUD CLANGING MUSIC = BAD NEWS.
