Loved The Story and Characters!
Revisado: 04-03-25
I loved this story - the dual mysteries evolving over time with gripping plot twists and surprises. I’m also familiar with the area where it took place, which lent a more realistic flavor. The narrator is great, except with the male voices - which all sound artificially gruff and similar. I highly recommend it!

Great Read - Lots of Plot Twists
Revisado: 02-22-25
I really enjoyed this book - I like trying to figure out plot twists and I’m usually successful, but there was at least one that took me completely by surprise. The characters were strong and engaging and this was one I didn’t want to end.

I wish I had read this first, before Edgar Sawtelle. There were things I learned in this prequel that I would have understood better. I need to go back and listen to Edgar Sawtelle again. I loved both books and didn’t want them to end. Highly recommend.

Historia
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

Too Long By Half

I was an English literature major, but I still found this to be an overly lengthy tome. While It depicted a Victorian era provential town well, the characters were hard to like. The women especially were mostly inspid and dull.
