Still waiting for something to happen...
Revisado: 05-21-24
I feel like the description was slightly misleading. I thought there was going to be some great expedition but it ended up not being much of anything. I listened to the whole thing but I was always wanting more. Many frustrating characters and not much payoff.

Reminds me why I stopped listening to podcasts
Revisado: 05-21-24
I thought this was an interesting concept but it just reminded me why I stopped listening to podcasts, the forced "suspense", the "next time", etc. It was also so so confusing when the host and producer were talking to each other, their voices were way too similar and I couldn't tell what was going on. Overall it was just okay, maybe not worth a credit.

Historia
On a remote archeological site in Greece, the mythic home of the first Olympics, four women discover an unusual artifact. It’s a piece of history that definitely shouldn’t exist. And for the head archaeologist in charge, a relic himself, it means something’s gone horribly wrong.

Slow start
Revisado: 01-30-24
This book is very slow. More than half of the book focuses on the characters failed relationships and other non essential or interesting backstory. I was around 5 hours into the book when I had to go back and remind myself why I used a credit on this. Eventually things happen but the book could have been around 3 hours to total considering what happened. The reader also made the story even more confusing because they used the same voice for every character and there was no indication of when perspectives changed. Overall I was not impressed but I did finish it, very confused by all the positive reviews… maybe I just missed the magic somehow?

Worth a Listen
Revisado: 01-22-24
This book went in many directions but they all came together and made for an interesting read. There is a dog (who does survive) if that is something you worry about. Most of the characters were likeable and interesting. The daughter is very hard to like or listen to and towards the end drives much of the trouble that needs to be fixed. If that kind of thing bothers you, beware. Overall, it was a change of pace for me and a different take on your typical thriller.

Historia
Journalist Charlie Cates has always believed in facts, in what can be proved - her career depends on it. Which is why she has never truly accepted the supernatural visions that guide her to children in danger. After her work on a high-profile missing-child case brings unwanted fame, she reluctantly flees to the lush Big Island of Hawaii with her best friend, Rae. Determined to avoid her disturbing visions, Charlie begins writing what seems to be a harmless interview of a prominent volcanologist. But soon, she's haunted by dreams of a local girl who went missing six weeks earlier.

Just Okay
Revisado: 01-22-24
This book is just okay. It was not clear in the description that it was I think the third in a series. You certainly don't need to read the others to understand this one but it might have been good to know. January LaVoy is always a great reader and the book overall was an easy listen. The characters are not entirely likeable but tolerable.

Historia
Chava is a golem, a woman made of clay, who can hear the thoughts and longings of those around her and feels compelled by her nature to help them. Ahmad is a jinni, a restless creature of fire, once free to roam the desert but now imprisoned in the shape of a man. Fearing they’ll be exposed as monsters, these magical beings hide their true selves and try to pass as human - just two more immigrants in the bustling world of 1900s Manhattan. Brought together under calamitous circumstances, their lives are now entwined - but they’re not yet certain of what they mean to each other.

Wonderful continuation
Revisado: 08-12-21
The Hidden Palace is a great book with the same wonderful reader as the Golem and the Jinni. It however, is not quite as good as the original. Still absolutely worth a listen, you get to hear more about the relationship that builds between Chava and Ahmad but there is also a heavy focus on what happens to Sophia which is less enjoyable to me.

Historia
Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity — and skepticism.

Haunting of Hill House Show Copycat
Revisado: 10-08-20
This book is sooo similar to the show the Haunting of Hill House. It's a fun and interesting listen but it is a very very similar story. So if you liked that and want some more, this is probably the book for you. I found the female reader to be slightly irritating but overall it was decent.

Unexpected
Revisado: 09-16-20
Maybe I didn't do enough research into this book but I was not expecting it to be quite as steamy as it was. Don't get me wrong, I love a good romance novel but this was unexpected for me. It was a fun book, it's a good standalone novel that's wrapped up nicely. It has a couple mini stories at the end that are a fun change of pace. It's not the best romance novel I've ever read/heard by a long shot but it's a refreshing take on a classic story.

Almost Great
Revisado: 09-16-20
If you liked the other Agent Sayer Altair books, you'll probably like this one too. It has a really interesting ancient Egypt story line that I enjoyed. If you're looking for a good listen, nothing incredible, this is a good book for you. It felt like it was almost great but missing something. I can't quite put my finger on it though. The narrator is again the same, she's okay, nothing special but not the worst I've heard.

Historia
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

Meh...
Revisado: 06-21-20
If you like dogs it's probably okay but half the book is spent on the main character walking her dog or worrying about her dog or something else with her dog. Narration is fine I guess. Overall, the whole book was promising but ultimately a disappointment.
