Historia
Brought together by fate - or phenomena - heiress Jennifer Quinn, journalist Timika Mars, pilot Alan Young, and ex-Marine Barry Regis are bonded by the incidents they've witnessed, hunted by agents of a wealthy corporate cabal desperate for unimaginable power, and possessed of extraordinary abilities they do not understand, much less control. Now, they're on a mission of their own. As Alan and Barry test the limits of their strange gifts inside the military complex known as Dreamland, Jennifer and Timika begin a quest to locate an ancient tablet that may hold the answers to humanity's greatest question.

Simple review. I really enjoyed this book. Better than I expected. Some of the other reviews made me cautious, but the hours listening to it went by fast.

Historia
Consciousness creates all material reality. Biological processes do not create consciousness. This conceptual breakthrough turns traditional scientific thinking upside down. In An End to Upside Down Thinking, Mark Gober traces his journey. He explores compelling scientific evidence from a diverse set of disciplines, ranging from psychic phenomena to near-death experiences to quantum physics and beyond.

Makes You Think ...
Revisado: 09-16-20
I stumbled upon Mark's podcast first, as I was actively searching for many of the ideas that Gober has collected here for his book. I appreciate the way the author steps through each thought to paint a broader picture of what needs further study. A bit of a nit-picking ... even though I enjoyed the podcast and book, the manner and style in which the author narrates I could see how a more skilled voice over professional could have made the book more enjoyable to listen to.

Historia
Helen lives a decent, uncomplicated life. Satisfied in her career, she’s raising three happy teenagers, and her family has the most envied house on the street. Admittedly, she’s growing just a little disenchanted with her marriage to her workaholic husband, Werner. But that’s nothing she can’t fix. For disaffected, young petty criminals Ralf and Brian, it was a scheme to make some cash: a quick home invasion. The targets they’ve chosen are Helen and Werner. Just as planned, Brian disappears into Helen and Werner’s house. And he never comes out again.

I didn’t finish the book
Revisado: 05-25-20
The performance was good, the writing was crisp, but the inciting incident that breaks Act 1 into Act 2 made absolute no sense. I kept thinking where is the logic in this decision? I couldn’t follow the book anymore. Why waste 7 more hours not caring what happens. Bummer. It could have been good.

Historia
A blueprint. A bible. What Sun Tzu’s Art of War was to ancient China, Pimp is to the streets. As real as you can get without jumping in, this is the story of Iceberg Slim’s life as he saw, felt, tasted, and smelled it. It is a trip through hell by the one man who lived to tell the tale—the dangers of jail, addiction, and death that are still all too familiar for today’s Black community. By telling the story of one man’s struggles and triumphs in an underground world, Pimp shows us the game doesn’t change; it just has a different swagger.

Wow!
Revisado: 05-20-20
It's both disturbing and fascinating at the same time. There seems to be all sorts of sub-cultures that operate with their own set of rules that live amongst us. To get a glimpse of what this world is like and to hear how long the brutality and power grab has been going on is eye-opening. But let's be honest, I got here because of Dave Chappelle.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Will Patton's performance is nothing short of amazing! This book takes you down the rabbit hole and delivers. I listened to this book first, then watched the HBO series. Both have done a superb job bringing Stephen King's book to life.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Why is She Not in Prison?
Revisado: 05-20-20
This story is bonkers. I always had a feeling that a lot of the tech startup world is all bullsh#t. A lot of companies seem to be running off VC funds and don't really have any real product. HBO's Silicon Valley does a great job satirizing this, but this story is true and scary. What the hell?

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

Historia
By 1920, the movies had suddenly become America's new favorite pastime and one of the nation's largest industries. Never before had a medium possessed such power to influence; yet Hollywood's glittering ascendancy was threatened by a string of headline-grabbing tragedies - including the murder of William Desmond Taylor, the popular president of the Motion Picture Directors Association, a legendary crime that has remained unsolved until now.

Fascinating Story About a Lost Time
Revisado: 05-20-20
The early days of Hollywood are being lost. Most people can hardly remember movies made before the 1970's. This book dives you deep into the dark side of Hollywood. I loved "L.A. Confidential" so this story fits right into that old Hollywood mystery genre.

Well Done ... But Damn, It's Gruesome
Revisado: 05-20-20
Overall the book was well written and performed, I'm not sure I needed to fill my imagination with all the gruesome detail of torture and murder. I love the "Alienist" series and that was gruesome, but this book took it a little further.

At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. They bond immediately, in a group code-named Dragonfly.

I'm Almost Finished, But Damn!
Revisado: 05-20-20
Although I haven't finished listening to the whole book yet, I have to say that this is awesome. I know a lot of older people hate that word, "awesome" but hey, it's an intriguing and fascination story that makes me want to see a whole Netflix or HBO series about it. Now, here's the thing, I haven't finished yet, so the ending could totally ruin it for me. I'll have to wait and see :-)
