Historia
If you ever struggle with your connection to God (or whether you even feel connected to a faith at all!), you're not alone. Especially in our modern world, with its relentless, never-ending news cycle, we can all grapple with such questions. Do we do that alone, with despair and resignation? Or do we make sense of it with God, and with hope? In these uncertain times, could believing in the power of divine love make the most sense?

A lovely reminder
Revisado: 03-09-24
This is a lovely reminder that mostly what God does is love us. Savannah doesn't claim to be a theologian. She shares about the times God has been present in her own life, and the ways God has provided for her and her family. I loved the hope section best. Read 1 chapter a day or read the whole thing in 1 setting. I'll be rereading this one for a long time.

Historia
The prompt seemed simple: Race. Your Story. Six Words. Please Send. The answers, though, have been challenging and complicated. In the twelve years since award-winning journalist Michele Norris first posed that question, over half a million people have submitted their stories to The Race Card Project inbox. The stories are shocking in their depth and candor, spanning the full spectrum of race, ethnicity, identity, and class. Even at just six words, the micro-essays can pack quite a punch, revealing, fear, pain, triumph, and sometimes humor.

a well-crafted deep dive into a very complicated subject
Revisado: 02-21-24
I am an unabashed fan of Michele Norris. Ever since her NPR days, her voice has brought a calm to my spirit like few others, and her "Your Mama's Kitchen" podcast makes me laugh, cry and think in equal measure. This book is beautifully crafted, and I am incredibly grateful that it is so inclusive in both its language and content. I even found my own origins on these pages as the descendant of German him immigrants originally from Kentucky. My 6 words: Southern white woman. I see you.

All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

So Emotional for me
Revisado: 06-20-23
I dearly love "Auntie Beth" but I wasn't sure I could hang with the audio version. I'm so glad I did. This memoir is heartbreaking and soul lifting. it's hard and it's beautiful. When I tell you I covered my face with my hands and sobbed through Chapter 22, believe me. They were "Tears of Tenderness", and they are allowed here.

Revisado: 05-20-22
Gosh, I just love Shauna Niequist. She writes in such a beautifully descriptive way, you can almost taste the food she describes. You can walk with her around her amazing new hometown. If you're looking for lots of answers, you won't find them here. But you might find better questions that you can ask yourself. i sure did. Brava, Shauna. The Bonus Interview was perfect too.

I'm sure this book in print is marvelous. This book has read by the author is phenomenal! Jen gives additional insights that made me roar with laughter and cry actual tears. The sass is real with this one, but so are the deep deep feelings. It's an honor to have been present to listen to Jen tear up in places. Be sure to listen to every acknowledgment because they're amazing too. I'm sure a pandemic is not the best time to release a book, but I sure needed this right now. May we all go forward more fierce, more free, and more full of fire.

Historia
Sarah Bessey was in her sweet spot: a popular author, sought-after speaker and preacher, and an active and engaged mother of four, married to the love of her life. Raised within the Word of Faith and prosperity movements, which declared that obedience to God led to untold blessings, her life seemed to prove the preachers of her childhood were right. Then she was in a car accident with life-shattering consequences, and everything she thought she knew about God and faith was upended. Sarah tells us the whole story of the car accident that changed her body and changed her life.

Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Savannah area girl revisits "The Book"
Revisado: 08-03-19
When I first read "Midnight", I was not yet living in the Savannah area. Much of the description and many of the places were lost on me. Now, 25 years after it was originally published, "The Book," as it is known locally, holds up. It means a lot more to me now. Many of the characters are gone, The Lady Chablis, Emma Kelly, "Mandy," but a few are still living. It's lots of fun when the remaining ones come up in the news or gossip.

you find it's only a strong as its broken parts. This is a beautiful look at the difference between function and dysfunction and how perception can lead you to believe that one is the other. What a terrific story with deep and well developed characters this is.
