Historia
Eugene “Geno” Miles is living out his final days in a nursing home, bored, curmudgeonly, and struggling to connect with his new nursing assistant, Angel, who is understandably skeptical of Geno’s insistence on having lived not just one life but many—all the way back to medieval Spain, where, as a petty thief, he first lucked upon true love only to lose it, and spend the next thousand years trying to recapture it.

Brings out all your emotions!
Revisado: 04-07-24
I promise I didn’t cry until the end, although I could have in a few parts more. The characters keep you laughing, make you mad, and of course have you in some tears. The narration of this book was done so well. I will truly miss these characters! Great book!

Loved this story and characters. Wonderful portrayal of real life feelings of grief that in some ways reminded me of situations I know such as my friend with an alcoholic mother. Of course in the story it was Wren’s mother going through her animal change but I felt the adolescent Wren mirrored my friend during that part. The narrators were wonderful. Great book!

Historia
Cassie Quinn may only be twenty-three, but she knows a few things. One: money can’t buy happiness, but it’s certainly better to have it. Two: family matters most. Three: her younger brother Billy is not a rapist. When Billy, a junior at Princeton, is arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie races home to Manhattan to join forces with her big brother Nate and their parents, Lawrence and Eleanor. The Quinns scramble to hire the best legal minds money can buy, but Billy fits the all-too-familiar sex-offender profile—white, athletic, and privileged—that makes headlines and sways juries.

Saddened by the other reviews.
Revisado: 05-12-23
I’ve been reading what others have said in their reviews. I guess maybe because of my past history with sexually abusive family members I see this story as completely plausible where some who may have been more fortunate do not. Regardless, the writing and feelings are well done by both the author and the narrator. Honestly, it was easy to judge the privileged family and I felt bored with the main character’s 1st world problems until the real issues surfaced. Then, she became real to me and that’s when the book became good. Also, I find it ridiculous that people have dropped stars in their reviews only to say that this book was difficult to read because of the content. That is unfair. I agree it may be difficult to read but it happens every day in the lives of so many; domestic violence, sexual abuse. This is a book, well-written with the truth of what happens. Just because you are uncomfortable does not mean it’s right to drop stars on an author’s work. Dropping stars may deter someone who needs to connect with this character to be able to gain the strength with their own past.

Historia
Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her golden retriever Laika, house-sitting an old beachfront home on the rainy Washington coast. Her only human contact is her enigmatic old neighbor, Deek, and (via text) the house’s owner, Jules. One day, she reads a poorly written—but gruesome—horror novel by the author H. G. Kane, and posts a one-star review that drags her into an online argument with none other than the author himself. Soon after, disturbing incidents start to occur at night.

I can’t say this any other way. I loved this book! Just when you thought it may be predictable it threw you for a loop. Loved the characters and the final reveal of the true underlying trauma. Loved the two narrators for this book, they portrayed the characters so well. You won’t regret giving this book your time!

A wonderful, heavy book!
Revisado: 04-11-23
I’ve read some bad reviews of this book and I am sad to see them. I understand about the triggering parts of this book, having had similar wrongful acts committed to myself. However, I think whether or not you’ve been witness to such acts of assault, rape, domestic violence, this book gives so much in the way of learning empathy for women who have been in those horrible situations. This is a wonderful generational book about women who’s bonds strengthen them. I loved every minute and the style of writing. The narrator performed this story so well and I loved the accent and sound of her voice. Will recommend for sure!

Great idea for a story!
Revisado: 03-01-23
This book definitely pushed my previous reading boundaries of which I am thankful for. Ms. Bartz is super creative and I would like to see more from her in the future. Ms. Shalan did a great job voicing all the characters as well. This was a book I mostly could not put down. I gave 4 stars as I feel there are some parts that are either not necessary or should have been developed more, but overall I am happy I read this book!

Perfectly Moving
Revisado: 01-24-23
Independence is a wonderful story, narrated beautifully, and gave me a great push to learn more about India’s history and struggle to obtain independence. The themes of this book worked so intricately well, I was concerned about the length not being able to provide enough detail. I am not a huge romance novel fan and so I loved the way the author did not over power the love stories and had a healthy balance of real life tragedy and triumph. Wonderful book! Will recommend to many!
