Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

I have used Books on Tape and then Audible since 1994. I have seldom, if ever, complained about sound editing. I am not sure who had the idea to make the main character’s phone calls with her mother essentially incomprehenible. The mother’s side of the conversations, on the other end of the line, are presented as though she were on the phone calling from the far reaches of the Earth, tinny and in-Audible! Now, perhaps these phone conversations are not important to the story (in which case, why weren’t they edited out?). If they ARE, in fact, important to the story, then I will have missed a large part of the plot. This is an even more egregious error than playing loud music in the background of characters’ conversations which, gratefully, has not occured yet in this performance. I would read this book instead if that were an option, but, unfortunately, not an option for me. So this book I have so looked forward to is being ruined by a truly unfortunate sound editing error. Am I the only one with this problem?
Update: I am now almost done with this book - or the parts I could hear. In fact, large portions of the story take place on the phone with various characters. These conversations are all tinny, distant, and mostly inaudible. Good story, bad sound editing. Be warned

Historia
A psychopath the police have dubbed “Billy Dead Mates” is targeting pairs of best friends and killing them one by one. Before they die, each victim is given a small, white book. For months, detectives have failed to catch Billy or figure out what the white books symbolize and why the killer leaves them behind. The police are on edge; the public is in a panic. Then a woman, scared by what she’s seen on the news, comes forward. What she reveals shocks the investigators and adds another troubling layer to an already complex case.

Too long, ridiculous motive
Revisado: 05-09-19
I’ve always loved Sophie Hannah’s books. This one is not a winner. A long, involved journey to a ridiculously unbelievable destination. Still love her characters however. Try one of her other books.

Davina Porter RUINED this book for me
Revisado: 03-30-14
What made the experience of listening to Just One Evil Act the most enjoyable?
I love Italy and Lucca. Expected to love this book...
How could the performance have been better?
Davina Porter DESTROYED the Italian language with one mispronunciation after another. What was she thinking ? To even accept this assignment?!!! And is there no such thing as an "editor" in audible books?!! Shame on Audible and shame on her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Major reaction was exasperation with the mangled Italian... I was also frustrated with the series of idiotic decisions and acts made by Barbara Havers - and that she got away with them. I truly thought that George was preparing to rid the series of Barbara by having her fired. It is incomprehensible that her bizarre behavior would be tolerated.
Any additional comments?
I'm pretty sure that Elizabeth George had nothing to do with writing this book... Come to think of it, maybe the last three books ...
