Historia
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

This book ranks among the best.
Any additional comments?
This is perhaps Stephen King's best book yet! I loved Will Patten narrating. Rich developed characters and very believable storyline.

Historia
Creole Belle begins where the last book in the Dave Robicheaux series, The Glass Rainbow, ended. Dave is in a recovery unit in New Orleans, where a Creole girl named Tee Jolie Melton visits him and leaves him an iPod with the country blues song “Creole Belle” on it. Then she disappears. Dave becomes obsessed with the song and the memory of Tee Jolie and goes in search of her sister, who later turns up inside a block of ice floating in the Gulf.

Sensational!
Revisado: 08-19-12
What did you love best about Creole Belle?
I love how Burke draws you into the characters in a way that when the book is over you can't possible read another for a peroid of time. You need to process what you have just read. More than when reading, audio books with a narrator like Will Patton, and a writer with the descriptive powers of Burke, give a very clear mental image in my mind about the lay of the land, how the characters look, feel, think. I could go on & on.
What other book might you compare Creole Belle to and why?
Randy Wayne White's, "Night Vision" and "Deep Shadow" Great characterization and intense story line. Perfect narration.
Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I only want Will Patton when listening to James Lee Burkes Dave Robicheaux novels. Will puts everthing into his narration. He distinguishers between different charactors. If narrators can't do that I would just as soon "read" the book myself.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book absolutely made me cry several times. Especially at the end when Clete threw himself on the villian and risked his own life. I admire Dave & Clete and their motivations to do the right thing. It reminds me of a time when men protected & cherished their families.
Any additional comments?
I love the addition of Clete's daughter Gretchen. Hope to see more of her character interacting with Clete. Can't wait for Burke's next novel!

Historia
It began peacefully enough, on one of Florida's private islands. At a reception hosted by a notorious Russian black marketeer, Doc Ford uses darkness, and his friend Tomlinson, as cover to get an underwater look at the billionaire's yacht. By the time Ford surfaces, everything has changed. Environmental extremists have taken control of the island. Or are they thugs hired by the Russian's competitors?

Not White's best
Revisado: 03-31-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I am a big fan and read everything he writes. After the last two books, Deep Shadow & Night Vision, I expect and want more of the same intensity of action and depth of character. I didn't really feel any of that in Chasing Midnight.
What was most disappointing about Randy White’s story?
The characters.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
I especially like George Guidall's reading of White's books.
I picture Doc Ford with his voice. He also read Night Vision. Great performance.
Do you think Chasing Midnight needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The sturgeon science was interesting, Environmental terrorism. Lots of good subject matter.
Any additional comments?
I have only read this book audibly. Before totally dismissing it, I will give it another chance and read it in book form. Maybe I missed something.

Boring
Revisado: 02-20-12
What could Michael Connelly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
No indepth character interaction like in later novels. Boring lengthy court scenes. Harry's girlfriend was rather blah.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator did not sound anything like Dick Hill. Too much breathing and wet mouth sounds distracted me from the story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment
