Season 12 premiered October 20, 2024 – a nonfictional account of The Martian Revolution of 2247. Mike Duncan is taking everything he's learned from 12 seasons of historical revolutions - the repeating arcs, characters, ideas, events, and patterns which all revolutions seem to follow - and created a fictional history of the Martian Revolution of 2247. The series is written from the point of view of a historian working hundreds of years after the Martian Revolution and will be presented in the style and format of previous seasons of Revolutions. It will look, sound, and feel like a Mike Duncan...

Absolutely Fascinating
Revisado: 04-12-21
This podcast is unapparelled and epic in scope. It covers the English revolution, the American revolution, the French revolution, the Haitian revolution, the Spanish-American Wars of Independence, The July Revolution (1830 France),the Revolution of 1848, The Paris Commune, the Mexican revolution, and Russian Revolution (both 1905 and 1917). The English and American revolutions start of pretty slow but Mike really hits his stride on the French revolution and after that it becomes an amazing Podcast. You can tell Mike is passionate about the subject and makes its exciting.

From the perilous ocean crossing to the shared bounty of the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim settlement of New England has become enshrined as our most sacred national myth. Yet, as best-selling author Nathaniel Philbrick reveals in his spellbinding new book, the true story of the Pilgrims is much more than the well-known tale of piety and sacrifice; it is a 55-year epic that is at once tragic, heroic, exhilarating, and profound.

Turns Myth into History
Revisado: 02-23-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this Audiobook, In school we mostly got a 2 dimensional narrative of the founding of Plymouth Colony and Massachusetts but this book really gives flesh and blood to the time period. Starting from the origins of the Pilgrims in England and Holland the story takes up through to the end of the King Phillip's War. Philbrick humanizes both the settlers and the native. As someone who has live in New England my whole life its was especially nice to find out the interesting history that happened towns around Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Philbrick doesn't sugar coat the violence which is necessary to have an actual understanding of our history. All in all it is a great book which everyone who wants a better understanding of the origins of the United States should read.

Historia
In the aftermath of World War II, Prussia - a centuries-old state pivotal to Europe's development - ceased to exist. In their eagerness to erase all traces of the Third Reich from the earth, the Allies believed that Prussia, the very embodiment of German militarism, had to be abolished. But as Christopher Clark reveals in this pioneering history, Prussia's legacy is far more complex.

Dull and Disorganized
Revisado: 09-13-20
The book is simply boring. It just throws random facts at you in a very disorganized way. The years jump around so you never know what decade is being talked about. It didn't humanize any of the characters. The narrator was ok. Maybe the print version would be alright but in audio format it really misses the mark.

Barbarians, political breakdown, economic collapse, mass migration, pillaging and plunder. The fall of the Roman Empire has been studied for years, but genetics, climate science, forensic science, network models, and globalization studies have reshaped our understanding of one of the most important events in human history. PhD historian and specialist Patrick Wyman brings the cutting edge of history to listeners in plain, relatable English.

A Great Podcast
Revisado: 08-31-20
This is a great Podcast. Patrick Wyman is an engaging narrator. Not only does he present big picture reasons for the collapse (or transition) of the Roman Empire, he also puts you in the shoes of the romans/barbarians who lived through it.

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Historia
Even today, the influence of Ancient Rome is indelible, with Europe and the world owing this extraordinary empire a huge cultural debt in almost every important category of human endeavor, including art, architecture, engineering, language, literature, law, and religion. At the peak of its power, Rome's span was vast. In the regional, restless, and shifting history of continental Europe, the Roman Empire stands as a towering monument to scale and stability, unified in politics and law, stretching from the sands of Syria to the moors of Scotland. And it stood for almost 700 years. In this series of 48 spirited lectures, you'll see how a small village of shepherds and farmers rose to tower over the civilized world of its day and left a permanent mark on history. In telling Rome's riveting story, Professor Fagan draws on a wealth of primary and secondary sources, including recent historical and archaeological scholarship, to introduce the fascinating tale of Rome's rise and decline, including the famous events and personalities that have become so familiar: . Horatius at the bridge . Hannibal crossing the Alps during Rome's life-or-death war with Carthage . Caesar assassinated before a statue of his archrival Pompey . The doomed lovers Antony and Cleopatra . The mad and venal emperors Nero and Caligula . The conversion of Constantine The course also addresses one of history's greatest questions: Why did the Roman Empire fall? And you'll learn why most modern scholars believe that the empire did not "fall" at all, but, rather, changed into something very different-the less urbanized, more rural, early medieval world.

Pretty good. As other reviewers have mentions it mostly focuses on the Republic and early Empire. If you are well versed in Roman history this lecture probably isn't for you but if you're new to the topic this is an excellent intro. The professor speaks clearly and is easy to understand.

Historia
The Roman Republic was one of the most remarkable achievements in the history of civilization. After its founding in 509 BCE, the Romans refused to allow a single leader to seize control of the state and grab absolute power. The Roman commitment to cooperative government and peaceful transfers of power was unmatched in the history of the ancient world. But by the year 133 BCE, the republican system was unable to cope with the vast empire Rome now ruled.

Great Addition to the Podcast
Revisado: 01-01-20
This book is fantastic. Having listen to Mike Duncan's History of Rome Podcast and wanting more, this was the perfect addition. The book highlights an extremely interest and underrated part of Roman history. Lots of "Rhyming" with the current times we're living through. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Roman history.

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.
