Historia
Miss Sophie Tennant was a girl of 19, of sweet, if a bit sickly, disposition, and golden curls. She had been confined to her invalid's chair since her childhood after a bad fall. Her health had deteriorated rapidly following her parents' deaths, and she'd hardly risen from it since. Sophie was waiting for her ladies' maid to wheel her to her bedchamber, when she screamed. In front of her she sees a dead body, white and pale in the candlelight. She reaches out a hand and touches its cheek.

Terrible reader
Revisado: 04-20-19
The story was ok, but was ruined by a bad performance. The reader wooden and amateurish.

January 1954. Mists cover the hills around Selchester. Someone at the research facility known as the Atomic is leaking secrets to Soviet Russia, and when nuclear scientist Bruno Rothesay goes missing, the British Intelligence Services are convinced he's the mole. Early Cold War novel
Revisado: 12-17-18
I enjoyed this series of books and am sorry to see them end. I almost didn't get into the first book, however, because the reader irritated me so. He came across as pompous and he was overly emphatic. I loved the books in spite of him, but have enjoyed the experience much more with another reader.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

fascinating look at a little know part of historu
Revisado: 03-02-18
The story was heartwarming and painful in equal degrees. The conditions some of the people live in are heartbreaking. Still, good humor and kindness shines in parts.

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Historia
The Etymologicon is a completely unauthorized guide to the strange underpinnings of the English language. It explains: How you get from “gruntled” to “disgruntled”; why you are absolutely right to believe that your meager salary barely covers “money for salt”; how the biggest chain of coffee shops in the world (hint: Seattle) connects to whaling in Nantucket; and what precisely the Rolling Stones have to do with gardening.

Fun for anyone who loves words and language. The reader is excellent as well and his dry tone is perfect for the content.
