Historia
Carol Leonnig has been reporting on the Secret Service for The Washington Post for most of the last decade, bringing to light the secrets, scandals, and shortcomings that plague the agency today - from a toxic work culture to dangerously outdated equipment to the deep resentment within the ranks at key agency leaders, who put protecting the agency’s once-hallowed image before fixing its flaws. But the Secret Service wasn’t always so troubled.

Outstanding until Trump Derangement Syndrome...
Revisado: 06-09-21
This was an excellent listen and really enjoyed the ups and downs of the Secret Service for the first 17 1/2 hours, I should have stopped there when the author took over narrating. The last 2 chapters and the epilogue are read by the author and just let me say, as even handed as the first chapters were, the last was equally terrible as to the theme "Orange Man Bad", in which it seems every woe of the SS since Obama has been Trump's absolute fault. There is NO WAY that any reader can not be mistaken as to the politics of the author and after 3 1/2 hours of pure Trump bashing, I gutted my way through it with clinched teeth. Regardless of your politics, it is very disingenuous to blame it ALL on him, whether you like him or not. I reached to turn it off several times, but didn't, as I wanted to see if the author would somehow recover her objectivity. She didn't. My advice? If you get this, stop listening with 3 1/2 to go. You will thank me, no matter which political party you belong to. My two cents worth...

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Great narration but so-so story
Revisado: 11-03-18
I really enjoyed the first Thrawn book and had high expectations with this offering but I found it just ok. Sometimes very difficult to follow, I stuck with it. The narration was top notch as always with Marc Thompson. Let me say this, by the time it was over, I was so sick of Anakin Skywalker I was pulling for him to get captured and shipped out of the story. What an arrogant whiny snowflake!!! Vader was a much better character but I was so sick of hearing Anakin and his actions.

Historia
In 1941, the US began to form a hand-picked army to fight in Europe. What made it different is that its troops were composed of artists, actors, meteorologists, and sound technicians, and their true mission was not to fight, but to deceive the German Army. Information about the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops was classified top secret until 1996. Following the declassification, Jack Kneece interviewed many of the key personnel involved in this elaborate ruse, including fashion designer Bill Blass.

Interesting story wrapped around dry facts
Revisado: 09-26-18
The story itself concerning the the Ghost Army is really fascinating and should have been a really good read...but... the material is presented like an army report. This number was with this number and they acted like this number unit who moved 2 miles to join this number unit...and on and on. I kept listening because of the actual interesting story lines which would show up about 30% of the time. I am still wanting to know about the unit but am going to have to go find it somewhere else.

Historia
Founded by Augustus around 27 BC, the elite Praetorian Guard was tasked with the protection of the emperor and his family. As the centuries unfolded, however, Praetorian soldiers served not only as protectors and enforcers but also as powerful political players. Fiercely loyal to some emperors, they vied with others and ruthlessly toppled those who displeased them, including Caligula, Nero, Pertinax, and many more. Guy de la Bédoyère provides a compelling first full narrative history of the Praetorians.

Reads like a thesis paper.....
Revisado: 05-18-18
If you are interested in a reference book or to get about 3 hours of interesting stories and 8 hours of blah blah, then get this one. The narrator's delivery was bland and dry; although he did pronounce the names convincingly enough. After the first hour, I tried to return the book but Audible did not allow it so I slogged through it. It could have been much more interesting a story as the time and the institution was fascinating but it was SO BOGGED DOWN that it was hard to pull anything out of it to keep me interested. Sorry but I was very disappointed in the story as a whole. Like I said, if reading thesis papers are your thing, go for it!

Such a good book.....
Revisado: 02-16-16
If you could sum up Troublemaker in three words, what would they be?
Raw. Honest. Eye-opening
What other book might you compare Troublemaker to and why?
None that I have read before.
What does Leah Remini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The personal feelings, emotions, and just her voice to her own story. It was not like she was reading it, it was like she is sitting across from you at coffee and telling you her story. Outstanding!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
Any additional comments?
If you want a real practitioner's view of the cult of Scientology, then this is the book. I wanted to read just to learn more about this "church" and got so much more of an insight.

As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

I should have paid attention to the reviews.
Revisado: 02-10-16
I read the other reviews about this book and should have saved the credit. I an a huge Star Wars guy but really, I had to hold my nose to finish this. It took me almost a month to finish just because I could not stomach it in large doses. The book is poorly written with way too many obscure characters and draggy plot. I felt like I was listening to a graphic novel or a Marvel comic book with the whams and pows and blah blah blahs. Can't recommend unless you are totally hardcore.

Historia
Drawing on comprehensive research and his own intimate knowledge of the Vicksburg Campaign, Jeff Shaara once again weaves brilliant fiction out of the ragged cloth of historical fact. From the command tents where generals plot strategy to the ruined mansions where beleaguered citizens huddle for safety, this is a panoramic portrait of men and women whose lives are forever altered by the siege.

Great book, very distracting production.
Revisado: 10-30-13
Would you consider the audio edition of A Chain of Thunder to be better than the print version?
No
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Chain of Thunder?
Negatively, I will remember the constant uneven recording quality, the breaks into and out of the flow, and how there seemed to be un-natural pauses in the production.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Paul Michael?
I don't know who specifically but he did ok, not outstanding, just ok.
Who was the most memorable character of A Chain of Thunder and why?
Sherman, because I knew very little about him prior to this book. I have a desire to get to know him better.
Any additional comments?
I am a big Shaara fan and always enjoy his books and did this one. I became so depressed and down by the time it was over, I felt the surrender along with the army and citizens. The book did it;'s job to convey the feelings and actions. My main complaint would be in the production value. The pauses, the terrible inserts that were obviously either recorded later or on different equipment, they were very distracting. I hate that after investing 22 hours to listen, my main thing I remember is how I hope I never hear another book like that production wide. Please do better!!
