Marvelous
Revisado: 07-14-08
I really enjoyed this novel. In addition to being quite a good suspense story, it has all sorts of great little pieces of sly humor about educational bureaucracy and academic foibles. I loved it.

Historia
Spreading democracy takes more than cutting-edge military hardware. Winning the hearts and minds of a troubled nation is a special mission we give to bewildered young soldiers who can't speak the native language, don't know the customs, can't tell friends from enemies, and, in this wonderfully outrageous Iraq-era novel about Vietnam, wonder why they have to risk their lives spraying peanut plants, inoculating pigs, and hauling miracle rice seed for Ho Chi Minh.

Wonderful
Revisado: 12-13-07
Wonderfully read, with just the right amount of irony in the narrator's voice. I agree with the other reviewers who compared this to Catch-22, although I found it less bitter. Ironic and wry, yet compassionate in its treatment of war's idiocies.

This is the perfect book for a long drive or while doing chores. It's a very funny roimp through the Australian countryside with a bank manager who has just turned fifty and decides to rob his bank branch that just closed and chuck it all. You will laugh out loud. Very enjoyable.

Historia
There is a war going on for the future of our country. Most people know that. What they may not know is that if Christians lose, the result won't merely be enduring public policy we disagree with, it will be a prison sentence for those who oppose it. We've all seen the attack coming. First the Supreme Court said kids can't pray in school. Then the Ten Commandments were ripped from the classrooms.

I listened to this more out of curiosity than anything else. The author's theme is preposterous and she provides only unfounded illogical statements.

Historia
Before The Company, Robert Littell made a name for himself with The Defection of A.J. Lewinter. Hailed as "a perfect little gem" and a "concise, smart, and funny [novel that] turns Cold War spy cliches on their head," A.J. Lewinter tells the story of an insignificant American scientist whose defection to the Soviet Union becomes a terrifying political chess match of deceit and treachery. Not to be missed!

Scott Brick is masterful
Revisado: 07-16-03
I thought this was an excellent novel of the spy genre. I continue to be impressed with Scott Brick as a reader who manages to separate characters without substantial differences in voices. At one point a character is coughing and he manages to switch voices and coughing in a very believable manner.
