Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Classic
Revisado: 03-18-24
I love vampire movies and decided to actually read/listen to the original. Thoroughly enjoyed it. After all the movies, it's good to see the pieces each movie took from the book and made it their own. I now want to go back and look at all Dracula movies and series
The last 30 minutes, the sound of the narrator swallowing his spit was...disgusting.
Overall, great listening.

Historia
From the time he was a boy in Georgia, LC Duncan, patriarch and leader of the Duncan clan, has battled racism. Even now that he and his family are truly successful, the racism can still be in-your-face. Maybe it's the political climate or perhaps it's just bad timing, but LC and the rest of the Duncans are being challenged by the ultimate power-hungry racist, Sheriff KD Shrugs.

Less favorite so far...
Revisado: 12-18-21
I enjoy the Duncan Family saga. However, this book....I didn't enjoy references to twice impeached former fake news potus, Maga, the KKK OR whyte folks kidnapping minorities for their organs. I wish I had known these elements were in this book before listening.
The twist with Rio and Paris is good and I hope these two storylines don't intersect in future books.

LC Duncan, patriarch and leader of the Duncan clan is alive and well after being shot by a mysterious gunman. But wherever the Duncans go, trouble and drama are never too far behind, and this time it comes in the form of longtime Duncan enemy Vinnie Dash, and Ruby, the mother of Orlando Duncan's baby who disappeared before the child was born.

Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

interesting, confusing
Revisado: 06-10-21
This is the 2nd book in this series. I listened bc I enjoyed the 1st and want to finish the series. The many many different character names makes it confusing and at times hard to keep up. I like the premise but to me it fell flat halfway through. it took awhile to even finish. I'm not interested enough to read the 3rd book. I'll read something else of Ms. Butler.
