Best Narration of the NASB.
Revisado: 08-18-20
I've listened to several narrations of the 1977 and 1995 NASB's. The narrator who does this one is the best that I've heard, yet. If you're looking for a "dramatic" Bible (one which has sound effects in the background), you'll need to keep looking--this one is purely the text.

Historia
Six-time Emmy Award-winning funnyman Tim Conway, best known for his characters on The Carol Burnett Show, offers a straight-shooting and hilarious memoir about his life on stage and off as an actor and comedian. In television history, few entertainers have captured as many hearts and made as many people laugh as Tim Conway. There's nothing in the world that Tim Conway would rather do than entertain - and in his first-ever memoir, What's So Funny?, that's exactly what he does.

boring life to be such a wonderful actor/comedian
Revisado: 06-05-19
struggled to finish it, and couldn't. Tim"s life seems boring, surprising since he is such a great comedian

Historia
In this definitive biography, renowned Bible scholar, Anglican bishop, and best-selling author N. T. Wright offers a radical look at the apostle Paul, illuminating the humanity and remarkable achievements of this intellectual who invented Christian theology - transforming a faith and changing the world. For centuries, Paul, the apostle who "saw the light on the Road to Damascus" and made a miraculous conversion from zealous Pharisee persecutor to devoted follower of Christ, has been one of the church's most widely cited saints.

often boring (esp. due to periods of repetiveness); speculation passed off as probable fact. author Wright seems to want to take on the style of a.t. Robertson, but just doesn"t have his charisma or talent. I can't see why his books are so popular, unless it is because they are so dumbed-down. narrator gets the job done, but little more.

Look beyond the abstract dates and figures, kings and queens, and battles and wars that make up so many historical accounts. Over the course of 48 richly detailed lectures, Professor Garland covers the breadth and depth of human history from the perspective of the so-called ordinary people, from its earliest beginnings through the Middle Ages.

the best the great courses course that I've heard
Revisado: 04-11-19
I loved it. It is chock-full of information, passionately delivered. I've listened to many of The Great Courses courses and, to me, this is the best one yet.

Historia
The American Home Front is a fascinating artifact, a sharp portrait that shows America changing from civilian pursuits to military engagement, from the production of consumer goods to materials of war. Filled with touching personal stories of the effects of war, from a Japanese family facing internment that tries to sell Cooke their car, to the unemployed relocating in hopes of jobs in a gunpowder factory, The American Home Front is the work of an experienced, talented journalist.

A Disappointment.
Revisado: 04-01-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not well spent. I wasn't interested in the author's travels and experiences at the beginning of WW II. Much of the rest of the book's content (up to the time that I quit listening to it (see below)) was about how various communities fared during the War. There was too much fluff for my tastes.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I'm going to try to finish English Grammar Boot Camp, if I can stand to. I've got maybe 5 hours left on it.
What does John Byrne Cooke bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Just a fairly good professional narration. One sign of a good narration, in my opinion, is when a person doesn't have any reason to think about it; he/she can focus on the book's content. That was true of this audiobook.
Could you see The American Home Front being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
NO.
Any additional comments?
The comments and ratings above are based on listening to the audiobook only about 2 hours. That was all that I could stand to listen to. Other people may like the book; if so, they can give the high ratings and glowing comments that I couldn't honestly give.

In August 2006, the International Astronomical Union voted Pluto out of planethood. Far from the sun, tiny, and eccentric in orbit, it's a wonder Pluto has any fans. Yet during the mounting debate over Pluto's status, Americans rallied behind the extraterrestrial underdog.

Didn't Like the Narration
Revisado: 08-31-14
Would you try another book from Neil deGrasse Tyson and/or Mirron Willis?
I would try another book from deGrasse, but not from the narrator, Mirron Willis.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mirron Willis?
I am not familiar with the names of the narrators, I've listened to probably 30 audiobooks in my life and the narrators all have been fine up to this one. In my opinion, a good narrator is one whom you never or rarely think about while listening to the book.
Was The Pluto Files worth the listening time?
Yes. It was jam-packed with good, interesting information and was a pretty good story.
Any additional comments?
I have never paid attention to the names of narrators or listened to samples of the books before purchasing them. Big mistake. This narrator was a struggle for me to listen to. To me his voice was not clear and it was sometimes hard for me to understand the word(s) that he was saying. Too, it just wasn't a pleasant voice, to me. I didn't read the other reviews, so I don't know if others have felt the same way--I know that this might be a matter of personal taste to some extent. From now on, I definitely will avail myself of the opportunity to listen to samples of the audiobooks before I purchase.
