One Book for the Price of Two & Not Even a Mystery
Revisado: 12-30-23
First, let me say that this short audio book (7 hrs 15 mins) is the conclusion of a story that started in in Ross's Book 16 of the series, "The Shrine," which also is even shorter at 5 hrs 13 mins. It is ONE story, with a hiatus of of about 8 months between the two. So, I paid double for one story. Second, both books are more novel than mystery. There's a lot of angst and love among the four main characters; Ryan and Anna, Phillips and MacKenzie, and their children. Then there's the situation with Ryan's father, also an emotional deep dive that belongs more in a novel than a mystery. Third, where IS the mystery? It plays second fiddle to the story line, is barely introduced in The Shrine, and only slightly touched on in this book. A good book, if you like this genre, but not much of a mystery read.

Historia
After a long and eventful winter, DCI Ryan and his team are looking forward to the joys of spring. But, when one of their colleagues is shot dead on her own doorstep and the brass think it’s an inside job, Ryan finds himself drafted in to investigate. He’s barely scratched the surface when reports flood in of a terror explosion at Durham Cathedral. Chaos descends on the sleepy, historic city and, when the smoke clears, they find a priceless artefact that once belonged to Saint Cuthbert is missing.

Liked this one the least
Revisado: 07-27-23
I'm bucking the trend of the 5-star reviews here and saying I liked this Grimm book the least of all of them so far. I missed the personal anecdotes of the regular characters that add so much liveliness to his other books. Harry just moved through this one with little humor or "extra-curricular" interest. And the story just wasn't very good. I found it totally unbelievable that it took the team so long to figure out why Alan's business was sold. Well duh. It was entertaining to see how Jason has come along. I love the Grimm books, and I'm not going to stop enjoying them, but I feel this one falls short.

Great Narration, Delightful Story!
Revisado: 03-16-22
Tom Taylorson has done a masterful job with the varied characters in this delightful tale of characters young and old, magical, and dastardly. I enjoyed every minute and was sorry for it to end. I look forward to the next book in the series!

I'll Try Hard to Finish this Book...
Revisado: 03-14-22
Oh my goodness, what I thought was a K9 thriller is nothing but chick lit that totally denigrates women. It's starts with a woman on the phone, cursing and sobbing to the man she's called about how mean he was to her. Grow a backbone. From there it goes downhill to meaningless he-man tactics, so obvious sexual innuendos, and a feeble plot. Looking back at the description, I see that it's a Harlequin publication. Dang, if I'd seen that I never would have purchased it. Oh, but the narrator's pretty good.

Slow, and Background Soundtrack Terrible!
Revisado: 03-07-22
Although the narration by Anna Bentinck was excellent for her range and variation of the voices, it was too slow! Long pauses between characters' sentences and responses had me constantly saying, Com'on, hurry up!" This narration could have been shortened by at least and hour and a half, I'm sure, if read at a better pace. Even more annoying was the constant background music and soundtrack. I hated it, and found it trivial and distracting. The amazing thing is that I stuck it out to the very end. I doubt I'll ever listen to another Laetitia Rodd mystery.

Action, action action, snooze
Revisado: 08-25-21
This book just seems to be a mechanism to string together numerous episodes of not very believable action by a bunch of different people all lacking in basic common sense. Nobody ever sits down and has a meaningful conversation. Who knew that end-to-end action could be soooo boring?

This book read like the author wrote it for the sole reason for turning it into a screenplay. Never saw the movie, but I hope it made the characters more three-dimensional.
