Cute story
Revisado: 02-20-25
A bit slow, but matched the pace of life I imagine for the period of the setting. And I enjoyed the change from so many of the over-used formulas of other romance novels. The narrator’s voice was rather irritating at first but I got used to it. Except for Sage’s voice which sound more like a 90 yr old vs 19 y.o. she is described.

Historia
As far as matrimonial prospects were concerned, Lucy Bliss was told she'd make an excellent clergyman's wife. Her mother had loftier aspirations, however, for Lucy's lovely younger sister, Belinda. Belinda would marry a duke, more specifically the duke of Wardshire. Lucy was truly horrified. "Lucifer" Wardshire was rumored to be as wicked as the devil, with orgies and mistresses - and worse.

Gemma Summers is unlucky in love. She's known it since third grade, when her first crush blew a spitball into her hair, and a decade-long string of bad dates, boring sex, and abysmal morning afters has done nothing to improve her prospects. But when a random radio call-in contest lands her courtside tickets to the hottest playoff game of the season, Gemma's luck may finally be on the upswing, even if it doesn't exactly seem like it when the dreaded Jumbotron kiss cam lands on her and her date.

Too long. Dragged on and on.
Revisado: 11-23-24
I almost couldn’t finish this book as it went on way too long with a limited storyline. But I was sick in bed so…
Jemma, supposedly 28 yr old had the psycho babble of an adolescent, and her low self esteem inner chatter got old fast. And her and her friend’s relationships also were adolescent. I didn’t find it amusing, but trite. It was difficult to buy the “love at first sight”theme without ever getting any real read into the “hero” Chase’s side of the story. I know it’s a romance novel, but 12 hrs of a thin plot was too much.

A Little too much religious implications
Revisado: 11-07-24
The story is okay. Performance good. But SO much God and praying inserts that didn’t really add to the story, so felt like Christian propaganda. Not going to read further from this author.

You lost me early on with the obsession on peeing in the shower. Like the whole chapter going on and on….ewww. And also just can’t take the misogyny of the male lead. So disrespectful of women.

This is a ridiculous storyline
Revisado: 11-05-23
I had to stop reading this story. So the girl is supposedly too shy and insecure to ask a guy out. However, she aggressively pursues Crew to tutor her in seduction. She is demanding and assertive when trying to get her way - and I’m supposed to believe she can’t ask those other guy for a date. Ridiculous. Also the way the narrator reads the father and uncle roles makes them sound stupid and simple. Many romance stories stretch reality but this one was an insult to intelligence.

Thin storyline and a LOT of Christianity preaching
Revisado: 05-02-23
The story was mediocre and seemed written as a vehicle for preaching the Bible. The theme being if you believe and pray your prayers would be answered. Though a line in the book said that “you can’t bargain with God” yet that was the overarching message preached through the story. Pass on this one unless you like this sort of Christian storyline.

A Classic! Can’t go wrong.
Revisado: 02-10-23
The era in which this was written automatically makes it a little challenging to listen to by modern standards. This particularly with the topic of slavery and the racism behind it. Not to mention use of language that is no longer acceptable. That said, it is a classic love/hate story with great historical fiction aspects that make it very interesting and a fun listen. At times it did run on and on with descriptions, some may like the level, but I hit the FF a few times. It’s a 50 hr read, so buckle in and enjoy.

Needlessly long and unbelievable story line
Revisado: 12-21-22
Okay, it’s a romance novel, I don’t really need realism. However, the story went on and on, and on and on. It never really went anywhere. The ending was quite normal, but took about 30 minutes to conclude; everything in between was just more and more of the same babbling about feeling guilty for conning the guy. Save yourself a few hours and skip this one. Or at least fast forward to the predictable ending, after an hour or two of the silly storyline.
