Charles Martin never disappoints!
Revisado: 04-09-25
It’s so refreshing to listen to an audiobook with my family in the car, without profanity or descriptive sex scenes. I love all of Charles Martin’s books!

Historia
The morning of January 12, 1888, was unusually mild, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats - leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day, a terrifying, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as 16 were suddenly faced with life-and-death decisions.

From a rural Nebraska native
Revisado: 02-24-25
Having lived in this area in Nebraska my entire life & attended a one-room country school thru sixth grade, of which my brother & I walked one mile each way thru pastures, climbing over barbed-wire fences in all kinds of weather, this story has always fascinated me. I have always been able to somewhat imagine what those children and their teachers (who were also children) went thru on that horrible day. I wish this book was a little more non-fiction. It was interesting, but I knew the real story, so that knowledge took away from this one. A couple of the town names were mispronounced. Also didn’t appreciate the author’s political opinions at the end.

Good story/difficult listen
Revisado: 12-01-23
I was looking forward to listening to this, but had a very difficult time with it. Had to repeat many sections to figure out who was who & just to repeat what I had just heard. Difficult to keep all the characters straight. I would not waste my time on this, if I had to do it over.

This is a difficult book to review. It’s a horrible thing they all went thru, but I feel that we should all read these stories so this tragedy is not forgotten, and especially, not repeated. The incredible courage these women had, compelled me to keep reading & I’m glad I completed it.

Historia
In the fading town of Rooster, Texas, all that's really left is a service station, a church…and the Banty House, a long-ago Depression-era brothel. For more than seventy-five years, Betsy, Connie, and Kate Carson have called their mama's house a home. The three eccentric sisters get by just fine with their homemade jams and jellies, a little moonshine on the side, and big hearts always open to strangers. Like Ginger Andrews.

Highly disappointed!
Revisado: 09-01-23
I couldn’t believe I was reading an Elin Hilderbrand book. It’s sad that she’s apparently gone woke, like so many other good authors. It was like she was checking off all the boxes to ensure she had included everything, which was ridiculous! Added nothing to the story.
And the playlists….Ugh! Too many, so I skipped thru them.
The ghost story was boring & nothing of consequence happened to the people who did wrong. Reminded me of a Young Adult read.
