EMS brings his uncomplicated narration to a "good" story and makes it a "Grand" story. Reed's main characters are all a bit much of a sameness. That's not a bad thing 'cause prepackaged hero is why we read books right? So solid MC, (if a bit boring) hints of Thermopaly, hints of Henry V "we few we happy few" put together with some sibling Macbethian action. It works well. Enjoyed it.
Will, of course, read the next ones and be impatient till they get here. (Sigh)

The moany Hal whines about his disappointing life until a moany wizard cons him into stepping into the role of Protector on a second class RPG world. BUT! we know he'll defeat the foes because he's put a bunch of stat into luck. So, of course, that's the story. Yawn. er Double Yawn. Don't bother = really. save your credit for book on latrines.
So it's gotten to the point where I am barracking for the bad guys. This idiot MC is too stupid to live. I have always thought that an author's job is to engage the reader to the protagonist. Did I get that right? Engage - or did we mean enrage? I can't stand it anymore. I'm getting my money back.

Did I miss the memo? The one that mandated porn in every book published after 2015? That's problem number one.
I don't need to Know. OK? Put the folk behind closed doors and we get the idea.
And why do we need to read this book? Super Marine is on hand. The Author will invent some crap to bring the protagonist into peril as is required by the "formulae" and the Super Marine will fix it. Again I say Blah.
Save your money for an Ice Cream.
Oh! And I'm not American but I can't credit your UHRAH Patriotic Bullshit. This book is FULL of IT. I honestly don't know why I bothered. - Sighs dejectedly.
Honestly if your IQ is over 90 save your money.

I'm not sure but I think Cole and Pike are about 70 now. Gives me hope for my advanced years. Great Story Great Characters Great Action and Great Narration. Now we have to wait another year for another book. Strike ME! How old will they be then???

Good Story with not an idiot protagonist. Well considered and well put together. Oh, and it didn't drive me crazy with moralizing morons wondering if everybody else's right to pillage and plunder and rape was more important than the protagonist's right to protect and serve. How refreshing. Best listen for a long while.
