Immersive read

As someone who lost a brother on May 17, 1970 in Cambodia, Company D, 1st Battation (Airmobile) 12th Calvary, hearing the story within that timeline, and area was more than just interesting but somewhat healing because of the “family” he would have been serving to protect when he was called home. Thank you.

Historia
In 1942, America's deadliest fighter pilot, or "ace of aces" - the legendary Eddie Rickenbacker - offered a bottle of bourbon to the first US fighter pilot to break his record of 26 enemy planes shot down. Seizing on the challenge to motivate his men, General George Kenney promoted what they would come to call the "race of aces" as a way of boosting the spirits of his war-weary command.

Exciting and educational

The stories of the hero’s within this book were incredible. The narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the book to life and expressing every characters dream of becoming the best of the best. I learn a lot about the planes they flew and the environment where they operated too. I really enjoyed it. Excellent!

Gripping story
Revisado: 09-19-19
Gripping is a word often used by reviewers and therefore somewhat diluted. I listened to the audio version of this book and it’s the word that popped into my head when I started this review because each day, on my drive for work, I couldn’t wait to get started listening. The book is well written and coupled with an excellent narrator totally captivated me. I could almost see the country side, intensity and the horrors being shared. As a gold star brother, my heart is lifted and sometimes torn through stories like these and it’s so worth the read. The history related shouldn’t be forgotten and needs to be absorbed. Great book. Well worth my time.

Historia
Built of titanium and a chrome-nickel alloy known as Inconel X, the X-15 was the fastest plane ever built, streaking through the lower reaches of outer space even before the first space capsules reached orbit. First tested in 1959, the X-15 proved to be a crucial testing ground for the astronauts and hardware in the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and even the Space Shuttle programs. Celebrated reporter Richard Tregaskis spent time with the pilots, engineers, and other key personnel involved in the project.

Difficult audiobook
Revisado: 11-21-17
So the book was interesting with the in-depth information captured by the writer in their diary. Lots of detail about the earlier flights of the x-15. Throughout the book they referenced the coming “big engine” that would soon be setting records however the book never made it to that and just sort of ended. Nevertheless the detail provided by the projects beginning and earlier tests was interesting. However I would not recommend this audiobook to anyone. It was painful to listen to. The reader pronounced every words syllable slowly. Reminded me of Ben Stein’s teacher impersonation in Farris Bueller’s day off. I had to listen at 1.5x just to get though it. It’s not a book I would recommend unless you are fact hunting about the project.

Historia
In Legend, acclaimed best-selling author Eric Blehm takes as his canvas the Vietnam War as seen through a single mission that occurred on May 2, 1968. A 12-man Special Forces team had been covertly inserted into a small clearing in the jungles of neutral Cambodia - where US forces were forbidden to operate. Their objective, just miles over the Vietnam border, was to collect evidence that proved the North Vietnamese Army was using the Cambodian sanctuary as a major conduit for supplying troops and materiel to the south via the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Jaw Dropping

Would you consider the audio edition of Legend to be better than the print version?
I really like audio books since they fit my lifestyle so well. This one was no exception and was read very well. In fact, it was read so well that I could see the events unfold in my mind and was completely captivated throughout the entire book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Legend?
There were so many! The story of Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez sounds more like an action movie with super human strength, endurance and courage than it does real life yet, it was real life, the real life of an extraordinary man. Roy's story is one to listen to (or read,) it doesn't really matter, just do so because true stories like these need to be told.
Have you listened to any of Fred Sanders’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but Fred did an excellent job and I'll be looking for other books he presents.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
If someone needs help, you help them.
Any additional comments?
