Historia
As a 14-year-old he was Malcolm Little, the president of his class and a top student. At 16 he was hustling tips at a Boston nightclub. At 20 "Detroit Red" was in prison. It was there Malcolm Little started the journey that would lead him to adopt the name Malcolm X, and develop his beliefs about what being black means in America: beliefs that shook America then, and still shake America today. His significant role in the Nation of Islam and eventual split from it, along with his journey to Mecca, followed by his assassination in Harlem are chronicled in this fascinating portrait.

Amazing daddy/daughter story
Revisado: 04-08-18
I haven’t read/listened to a book I’ve loved this much in years. The narrator is absolutely amazing, perfect and believable in the role. Definitely Nicholas Sparks at his finest. Can’t miss this one!

Historia
Between 2005 and 2009, the bodies of eight women were discovered around the murky canals and crawfish ponds of Jennings, Louisiana, a bayou town of 10,000 in the Jefferson Davis parish. Law enforcement officials were quick to pursue a serial killer theory, opening a floodgate of media coverage, from CNN to the New York Times. Collectively the victims became known as the "Jeff Davis 8," and their lives, their deaths, and the ongoing investigation reveals a small community's closely guarded secrets.

Great story, narrator butchered names tho

Excellent story, glad someone told it.
Narration - As a SWLA resident it was difficult to follow at times due to the abhorrent mispronunciation of last names. I wish the narrator had consulted someone local for that.

Great culmination at the end

I wasn't all-consumingly enthralled with this one as I have been with Sepetys' others, but by the end of the novel I had been won over and entranced. Definitely worth your time if you love WWII fiction!

She's just a New York City girl living with her artist mom. News flash: Dad is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo always meets her at the airport!) Downer: Dad can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.) Shock of the century: Like it or not, Mia is prime princess material.

Narrator ruins the story
Revisado: 06-14-15
It's a good enough story as are most of her books, but the narrator really prevented me from enjoying this book. Her voice is not suited for reading at all, and she reads all of the male voices in the same AWFUL voice.

Historia
Acclaimed novelist Jewell Parker Rhodes is an American Book Award winner. Rhodes’ Ninth Ward is a stunning tale set against the horrors of Hurricane Katrina. Orphaned 12-year-old Lanesha lives with Mama Ya-Ya, the midwife who birthed her, in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward. Although Lanesha is different—able to see ghosts like that of her dead mother—she never feels unloved, an empowerment that helps her survive the devastating storm.

The only thing worse than narrator is story itself
Revisado: 02-13-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't imagine anyone!
Has Ninth Ward turned you off from other books in this genre?
Historical fiction is my favorite genre, but this author clearly doesn't know a thing about New Orleans beyond its ignorant stereotypes.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sisi Aisha Johnson?
Anyone who actually sounds like a black girl from the south.
What character would you cut from Ninth Ward?
Lanesha. She's annoying, not lovable.
Any additional comments?
Awful. Wasted my credit.

Great story!
Revisado: 05-14-12
What did you love best about The Future of Us?
I graduated in the late 90's so I loved all of the references to scrunchies and dial-up internet.
What other book might you compare The Future of Us to and why?
technically it may be science fiction but it reads like realistic fiction
What about Steven Kaplan and Mary Ellen Cravens ???s performance did you like?
both great voices, great performances
Any additional comments?
Several of my 8th grade students really enjoyed the book also!
