Historia
We are at war. Not with a foreign government or domestic terrorists or a creepy new artificial intelligence hell-bent on taking over the world. No, it’s a war we feel deep inside our own chests: we are at war with lies. The problem isn’t so much that we tell lies but that we live them. We let them into our bodies, and they sabotage our peace.

Complicated to do on audio
Revisado: 05-05-25
Very well done. You can tell it was slightly earlier than his most recent work as he’s developed a clearer communication of his recommendations ie. Practicing the Way. Really good analysis of the problem of sin and how it grows in our life. I need to redo on kindle however to get full impact of his thoughts.

Historia
We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice. To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life—a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do—transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him.

Loved the applicability to where I am in life and my walk with God. Definitely led by the Holy Spirit to listen to this right now. Practical guidance on living in our current world and becoming the person God desires us to be.

Historia
From Martin Clark - praised by Entertainment Weekly as "our best legal-thriller writer" - comes a wickedly clever, tenderhearted, and intricately plotted novel about a hard-luck lawyer's refusal to concede defeat, even as fate, the court system, and a gang of untouchable con artists conspire against him.

Too much story telling

Plinko Bounce- a more recent book was much better. Story got a little long as he just kept getting in deeper and deeper. But I’d listen to any of his books yet to be published as I believe he’s improved as an author.

Historia
At the height of the roaring 1920s, the ex-frontier town of Denver, Colorado, emerged from the postwar boom as the future of the American city. Rookie district attorney Phillip Van Cise was already making national headlines for a new brand of law enforcement. Employing military intelligence tools he'd developed during the Great War, Van Cise crippled the criminal empire of Lou Blonger, an ex-lawman who had risen from petty scam artist to master of the Big Con. But Van Cise had even darker, more malevolent forces on his radar.

Enjoyed hearing about the work of Van Seyss who brought corruption and graft under control in Denver in the early 1920’s. It also expertly details the rise and fall of the KKK in Colorado over a period of about 4 years. Scarily similar to the MAGA movement today. Can’t beat history for learning.

Fantastic narration of a genuine pleasure of a book. The ability of the narrator and author to make me envision each character with differences in speech and patterns of words was a study in excellence. Truly enjoyed this book-savored it-didn’t want it to end. Seems ripe for a sequel.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Imagine a 1980s world of sumptuous hotel rooms, restaurants, New York City penthouses, and the powerful men who move easily between these pinnacles of luxury. They are music producers, rock stars, writers, and restaurateurs. They are household names like Billy Joel, Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, and Sting. And yet, each man has an entire aspect to his life that he doesn’t talk about publicly—his depression, his rocky marriage, his feelings of shame and failure, his private loss of faith. And now: The phone rings. Imagine the woman who has each of these men at her beck and call.

The writing was lyrical
Revisado: 09-06-22
I loved this book. I loved how it moved me, how beautiful the writing was and how spot on the narration was. This was a wonderful story - which considering I’m getting on a transatlantic flight tomorrow was not the best choice to listen to this week, but was so uplifting I was glad I did. The relationship between Edward and Shay was touching. Who would like this? Somebody that needs a break from podcasts and books about the Holocaust maybe, it will make you believe in the human spirit and its desire to survive.
