Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Heartfelt, Engrossing, a Gift
Revisado: 01-18-23
Prince Harry is brave/gallant. His story is obviously unique, but at the same time universally human on a number of levels. It really touched me; it feels like a gift.

All Over the Place and a Discombobulated Mess
Revisado: 02-20-22
The plot twist about one third into the story is the only redeeming aspect of this book, and the reason I rated it a two instead of a one. The story was all over the place and discombobulated on a number of levels, and the ending and Mrs. Livingston’s involvement (not getting into detail here, to not spoil the ending for those who haven’t read the book) did not integrate with the initial 99 percent of the story, was not well-developed, and was altogether ridiculous.
I usually only rate books I enjoy and rarely (if ever) write a negative review, but had to make an exception here as I do not understand the higher ratings. This book did motivate me to finally start working on a novel, because it seems to be successful and I know I could write a better novel than this.

How did Dean Learn to Sign?
Revisado: 03-07-17
I enjoyed the book, but the notion that Simone cut out her five year old son's tongue presumably so that he could not tell anyone that she killed her husband is blatantly implausible. What would be the purpose of doing this if she were then going to teach him to sign, as he would still be able to communicate that she killed her husband. Also, how did Dean learn sign language if he was five when the family began living in the woods? I caught the brief mention of Simone having a deaf brother in Chapter 49, which was so obviously cleanup to explain how Simone and Dean would know sign language. If a movie is made of this book, Dean should already be deaf prior to the family going into the woods; then the story would be more plausible. I initially rated the book 4 stars, but changed it to 3 stars as I worked through this review and what bothered me about the story.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Glad I Stuck With It!
Revisado: 09-10-15
I almost gave up on this book after the first 30 minutes or so. So glad I stuck with it! Excellent historical fiction. Great story! Loved the two heroines. Stunned and utterly saddened by the cruelty of the Germans. I rarely give five stars. This book deserves it.

Brilliantly told story of a real "human being".
Revisado: 02-16-15
Great story of a man's life through triumph and failure. An intermingled web of life told through the prisms of intellect at Yale to the navigation and the knowledge of the streets of Newark and New York. A man torn between cultures that even a Yale education could not break the lure of his upbringing.

Entertaining and Creative but a Tad Predictable
Revisado: 01-04-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Entertaining, engaging, creative and funny in all the right places. However, the book was a tad bit simplistic and predictable in its handling of the more serious themes and issues. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have recommended it to friends.
