I have always enjoyed Jessica Simpson. From her music to her tv show, her movies... I own more than my fair share of her high heels, but after listening to this book, in her own voice, I feel a kinship with her that I cannot describe adequately. This story feels like so much more than a memoir, thank you Jessica, for showing us your journey, even the dark parts, maybe especially the dark parts. I cried with you, I laughed with you, I feel like we sat together in my living room and became friends, and I can honestly say that I believe the world is a better place for having you in it.

Buy this book, give yourself the gift of hearing it from her own beautiful voice. You will not be disappointed.

I was gifted a copy of this Audiobook by @elderberrytales and Carrie Coello for my honest review.

.

Let me start by saying I did not read the first book in this series and jumped right in to the second book. April and Beth are two sisters who have just escaped their captors and are trying to find their way back to civilization. They have very little memories and struggle to fight through the haze. With only the contents of their backpacks to aid them, they brave the unfamiliar woods.

.

They know they've been vaccinated against a strange virus, but they have no idea what has happened to their family or the rest of the world in the meantime.

.

Held captive at a facility in the woods called C.E.C.I.L, they were subjected to mind control drugs and brainwashing. Now they must try to find their parents and see if anything has survived the deadly outbreak. April has the strange sensation that they're still being watched and hunted. April knows they need to leave the trails and look for help, but Beth is still caught in the mind control and refuses to leave the dangerous looping trails.

.

There wasn't a whole lot of action in the first half of this book, but it did fill you in on the events of the first book, so I didn't feel like I'd missed anything by starting with book two.

.

Both girls have special abilities, which you will learn in the story, no spoilers here. All the children from the facility with special abilities have a hidden butterfly tattoo on the back of their necks. Hence the title, catching Butterflies. 🦋 The second half was redeeming and filled in a lot of questions and just enough information to keep you guessing for another book.

.

I enjoyed this one, as did my 11 year old, and I'd read the third book to fill in more of the puzzle of the strange outbreak and how the world has changed in the aftermath. I liked most of the characters and the narrator made it easy to tell who was speaking with alternating voices which I appreciated!

.

I would recommend this book to my fellow, sci-fi, post apocalyptic, adventure lovers.

**AUDIOBOOK REVIEW**

Title: Burnt Siena ( A Flora Garibaldi Art History Mystery
Author: Sarah Wisseman
Narrator: Carrie Coello
.
I was gifted this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. Gifted by Carrie Coello @Elderberrytales
.
When Flora comes home from work and finds Ernst Mann, her colleague, room-mate, and romantic interest has been murdered she is determined to find out who killed him. She’s a half Italian - American living in Siena, Italy, working for a respected firm of art conservators, the Lorenzettis. The police have long suspected the Lorenzetti Family of smuggling, and enlist Flora ‘s help on the case. Flora is more interested in catching the murderer of Ernst Mann, and stopping anyone who may be guilty of passing off forgeries as originals in the art community. She quickly finds herself in dangerous situations, being stalked in the night, and falling for the handsome policeman, Vittorio Bernini. She is willing to do just about anything to get to the truth.

.
If you’ve ever wanted to visit Italy, you should listen to this audio-book. The descriptions of the Piazza del Campo will not disappoint. You can almost smell the garlic and taste the wine, feel the cobblestone street beneath your feet as you listen to Carrie Coello’s narration, the descriptions are beautiful and thorough. Her accent on some of the Italian phrases and names will make you swoon.
.
The story itself is more art history and restoration lesson that action filled mystery. While the characters were well developed and interesting, the pacing on the main story was very slow. I just didn’t feel the edge of my seat curiosity that I love in a good mystery. I thought Flora spent entirely too much time eating for someone who was on the hunt for a murderer or at one point even fearing for her life. I could have done without a lot of the food descriptions, they felt like unnecessary filler. Overall though, it was a good story about ancient art, history, and deceit. I’d recommend this for someone who loves all things Italian, or just wants to read a murder mystery with the flavors of Italy.
