Only one thing I did not care for in this book

So overall I really liked this book far more than I did HEFWM that I saw a lot of other reviews mentioning. However it does suffer from a similar problem to what I had with HEFWM and that is the over use of skill explanations, it gets really annoying to be mid fight and suddenly a skill that was explained like 2 chapters earlier is once again explained as if he just got the skill.

Really it should be something that books like this should be aware of and try to avoid, tell us the skill once and then from there on just mention the skill he is using without the details of what it does(this applies for items as well). And then maybe halfway through the book give a chapter dedicated to the characters known skills and items or something that can be skipped if wanted or read/listened to if a refresher is needed.

Other wise this story is a decent enough litrpg. It doesn't do anything to really break the mold so to speak but I do like the character dynamics between someone who was already getting ground down with life while still finishing college and the rest of the world and him taking a very "Nah, Imma do my own thing." mentality

The author seems to have some short term memory issues and forgets things he has set up early one way but then says they are another way later.

Spoilers from here

Like everything with his brother. Even with a reinforced shield someone 3x the level of the caster should be able to break through with minimal effort and the gem he used on the criminals to reduce their stats to level 0 seems to be forgotten. Or how his dinner plans with a friend of his ( that was a couple hours from starting) is cancelled to meet said brother...12 hours later, like could he have not gone to dinner with his advisor first and then gone to see his brother the next day?

I like One having Jack go to other worlds to get them ready for integration into the Omniverse though his leveling being glossed over so much does detract from the overall story a bit IMO.

If there is another book in this series I look forward to meeting the parents of one of his wives as they hit lvl 100. I just hope that Levesque has someone keeping notes for him in the future to keep things he states in mind so that the overall story flows better.

I wanted to like this more, However after a certain point the MC makes a choice that makes absolutely no sense for what we know of him so far.

Beware some small spoilers here.

He goes from really hating a certain person to wanting them in his harem because she said she was not at fault for a towns person dying and the evil queen she serves is doing it all to save all the monster girls. He buys this at face value and immediately seems to believe it and despite not agreeing to keep it secret decides not to tell Autumn that maybe things are not as it seems.

This killed any enjoyment i had leading up to this point in the story.

I like the concept of this story but man alive can he not keep plot points and events straight in his story.

For example something that The Principle tells Ian not to tell anyone in the first book because it would be bad is revealed as a surprise to her in this book. Or his ship AI says he edited out something important from a recording of them getting info from someone and then the cast is surprised he knows about that something important that they want hidden a few chapters later. At another part he mentions driving his bosses crazy from needing to move in order to think better, however he only worked for his Uncle prior to becoming a magic user and his Uncle (named Vernon which made me roll my eyes at the similarity to a certain other abused by his uncle magic boy) HATED his guts just for existing not because he would walk in circles to think.

This problem was around during the first book but seems far more prevalent here. I have listened to other books by this author and these problems were not in those books and I hope they are not in any of the other interesting books by him that I have noticed.

An amazing book that I finished before i realized it and it left me wanting the next volume now. The characters continue to act in a believable way and nothing feels forced between them. The hidden things that are slowly being revealed leave you wanting more.

If I had to point out one negative thing about this book it would be there seemed to be some issues with Mr. Born's audio set up as there were odd clicking sounds at random parts during the book and it would occasionally sound like he got farther away from his mic for a few lines.

But overall I still rate this as an amazing entry in this series and I can not wait for volume 8.

The third installment of this series starts of pretty good ramping up to what should be a fun listen as they power level in a constant monster surge environment. However constant repetition of skill descriptions destroy the flow of battle and frustrate more than help. Even with that I kept at it until i read the description of the next book in the series and lost all interest in continuing the series.

Overall not a bad story but be prepared for the constant interruptions while listening.

The only issue I have with this book is the male narrator. Had I read who was narrating I would have skipped this book (The other book I listened to him narrating caused me to give up half way through because of how annoying he got). Thankfully I did not and was pleasantly surprised. The story was pretty good for what it is and the female narrator more than makes up for Marcus and his constant whiny sounding narration. I am actually looking forward to where this series goes and hopefully Marcus can improve his narration abilities.

I had hopes for this as something that while not great would have been atleast entertaining but the male narrator sounds like he is cpnstantly whining even when something good happens he makes the mc sound like he is whining. Female narrator did a good job though.
